My first POA

Hi. I’m new to the field. I have my first signing and it’s for a durable POA in Ohio. The customer said I don’t need to bring or take any documents. Any tips?

If Ohio has required verbiage for their notarial certs, I would suggest you carry extra Ohio-compliant notary certs … just in case what the document contains is not compliant.

First signing? Yes, make sure you’re screening the signer for alertness and competence. Be prepared with your questions.

A pack of what, notarial certificates? As an NNA member you can download and print for free. You can also create your own following the requirements of your state. No need to buy them.

I find that estate planning documents usually require that I have a clipboard as i frequently have to sit at their bedside.

Your first assignment is referred to as General Notary work or GNW. Kind of the “meat and potatoes” assignment a notary might encounter had their not been a Gold Rush of sorts for Loan signing agents who are also notaries. Ask lots of questions about the signers health and negotiate how your fee will be paid before you agree to meet the signer. Bring a pen, a clipboard, and your notary stamp. Don’t over think it, sounds like the client need only your signature and your stamp.
