Notary Gig or Drug Mule?

Please note - I did not request that the entire thread be removed - I requested one post be removed and specifically addressed this request to that poster, not the OP. The original poster brought up a very valid concern which IMO should remain as it garnered some very constructive dialogue.

My mistake. I never saw the offending post and so I thought something different.

We are notary public’s not couriers

Linda, I don’t know you or him, but I recognized right away that a personal attack against a member here is inappropriate.

So I guess I can’t ask you for medical advice then. So be it.

I appreciate that Michael…but the statement is slanderous - it is blatantly false and many companies read this forum, along with many notaries that I’ve helped along the way. He has impugned my integrity and I do not appreciate it.

But thank you for your kind comment.

@annephia.proctor A function of being a notary is couriering documents. When we do loan closings, we courier documents all the time. Same for Apostilles. Being a courier is something I accept as one of the many facets of owning a full-service mobile notary company.

That being said, I think it’s reasonable to say that delivering “packages” falls outside the scope of general notary duties. If I wanted to deliver packages, I’d go to work for Amazon.

I do not wish to be responsible for any documents or “packages” I had no part in signing. There’s no point in putting my personal safety, my reputation, my business, and especially my notary commission at risk. Twenty dollars is hardly worth the risk or the effort. It’s unfortunate that I have to say this, as it should be common sense to everyone.

I don’t see that to be necessarily true. A secretary may xerox copies but he/she is not a copy specialist. Police officers write reports but they are not reporters.

Mailing packages for as a Signing Agent/Notary are basically other duties assigned.

Additionally, I have my packages picked up as a Notary/Signing Agent. Whereas, couriers pick up and deliver a variety of package types.

I personally find LindaH to be highly knowledgeable and professional. She gave me some information that was valuable. I appreciate her posts.

And I saw the post she asked to be deleted-it was inappropriate and was about to spark a war.

Thank you Angela - to say I am dumbfounded by his statement is putting it mildly
