I was assigned a buyer’s package today for 2pm. When arrived, I started the process with the signer. he received a call from his daughter telling him not to sign because the information on the down payment was incorrect.
I called RAH signings and they said it was okay and not to continue. Now they let me know I was only getting paid $25 for the copies after they agreed to $90 for the signing and $25 for the copies.
They wanted to schedule me for tomorrow and refused to give me $25 extra for the signing for today’s visit and for tomorrow, which would of been $140. It is not the Notary signing agents fault the paperwork was not to the liking of the signer. Just giving a heads up on how they handle their business. I am sure I won’t get selected again for a signing but I also don’t want companies taking advantage of my time.
Huh… this is quite different from what I remember about this service. I’ve done several dozen signings with this company I know on their payment policy it states if a signing is not completed, there is a 25 dollar print and trip fee, never known them to pay the fee and the print and trip fee, so if the order was cancelled which has happened to me too in the past and that sometimes happens, it’s a 25 dollar print and trip fee only. Maybe there was a miscommunication? Also, I would be careful, blasting a company could cause issues for your reputation as a notary, as I have known signing services to frequent these areas, just an fyi from someone who has seen it happen before on other platforms. Wish you the best!!
I am not familiar with this particular SS. However, once I have shown up and I have done my part with regard to the signing, I am entitled to the full fee, and I go down swinging for it. Yes, I have been in these situations a couple of times before. We do not guarantee the SS or Title Company a successful signing by our presence, and nowhere in their vendor agreement does it say so. I’ve had to press this a few times before and I have always been able to make my case and receive my full fee. If they choose not to use me again in the future – oh, well! If I were you I would make a compelling argument for the full fee, especially if it requires you to print a second set of documents for a return trip/signing.
I am sharing my experience. Everyone has a different one. The signing was not completed. I was unaware that you only get $25 when a signer refuses to sign. In my opinion it is not the Notary’s fault if the closing statements were not clarified to the buyer. I assumed with this being the final signing everything is agreed on. My time is just as valuable as anyone else’s. It’s a learning process and now I know for the future. Keep in mind I am a new notary learning from everyone’s experience as I share mines as well. If another signing company sends me out to an improper or stressful work environment, I would not hesitate to post my concerns in the future.
Thanks for letting me know. I did not know that’s the way it works. The signing was a month ago and I did not get paid the print/ trip fee yet so we will see.
Yes, I assumed that once the Certified Notary is sent out it’s the final step. The buyer, seller or client should not be so confused to the point where they do not want to sign. Majority of the signers have already seen the paperwork because I always ask. Anyhow, I know to expect the unexpected now because at any moment the signer is not informed or doesn’t understand details from title company, signing agency, etc.
@Yanira04You’re percent correct that your time is VALUABLE!
In my direct experience, this is how it’s managed with clients:
If the document package has been printed & the trip has been made with the signer refusing to sign AT THE ONSET (within the first few minutes) of the Signing Appointment, then 50% of the Agreed-To Fee is paid.
If the document package has been printed & the trip has been made with the signer refusing after approximately 20-30 minutes have been expended with the client at the signing table, then 100% of the Agreed-To Fee is paid.
This is the reason that some will say they show the Closing Disclosure [CD] to the signers first to ensure that everything is appropriate within the document package.
.
NOTE: Some may advise you otherwise, but this is the industry standard.
cNsa5 has it right. Except, in the 50% scenario, I haven been paid more than that if the mileage & drive time are excessively long. I will break it down for 'em and, so far, they’ve seen my point. Thankfully, it’s not something that happens often, but when it has, I’ve been paid what we agree is fair and there have been no repercussions. If we don’t value our time, nobody else will.
It’s important to ensure that a paradigm shift is implemented from an Employee Mentality to an Entrepreneurial/Business Owner perspective!

This is one of the myriad reasons I often express on the Notary Cafe forum threads to invest in yourself as a Business Owner by participating in the Notary2Pro courses (still only $300).
Plus, you’re able to pose these types of queries directly to them & you can rest assured that the responses you receive are percent accurate (unlike some posts you may see online & within this thread that advocate for the Signing Services . . .).

P.S. I receive no compensation or remuneration of any type or kind as a result of my first-hand experiential review above and within the following post:
Just to give an update, I called this morning to find out why my emails were not answered and payment has not been sent. It has been net 35 days and the “$25” are paid on the 1st and the 15th after 45 days.
Very sarcastic when I called 910-XXX-XXXX [Phone number redacted by NC moderators - reported as a personal number] “the scheduler with no name”. He summarized the notes and emphasized my negative review on Notary Cafe. Looks like this rattled him. Although they are getting $600 for this signing all of a sudden I am nuisance for asking for the “$25” travel fee.
Reading aloud their notes in straight sarcasm and an unprofessional tone to the conversation. Just a reminder notaries also keep notes and are humans too. Going forward I will not ask for payment or bother this signing agency again.
