I just received the Barnaby Williams email and now the same email from Vivienne Hartford. This first email doesn’t mention zoom, but if I respond, then there’s a request for a zoom meeting prior to scheduling a date/time for notarization. I uploaded a picture of the email and sender address.
That same exact request now appears as a post on Notary Rotary dated 5/13/2026 with the handle BRUCE CAREY of UT with a time stamp of 11:03pm (CT).
So far, there aren’t any responses to that post. Wonder if anyone has fallen for it and what the ramifications were …
@yolicue I just responded to it and reported it
I got this one also. I too thought scam!
@LindaH-FL – I did as well
My Notary friends,
I know of no State/Local tax documents that require a notarized signature. The IRS does not require any tax documents to carry a notarized signature.
All for now,
Your friendly Tax Preparer
Yes, notarizing TAX DOCUMENTS… one of several red flags in that email ![]()
I would totally ignore such an email. For one thing, I really don’t like to go out of my comfort zone (RE signings) too much. I do very few random general notarizations for people not associated with signing agent work. Maybe I should, but I’m comfortable doing what I’m doing. Therefore, it’s very unlikely that I would be motivated by a random email like that one. I have developed a large mistrust for people I don’t know, in general, through my experiences online and from scam phone calls.
Absolutely. We savvy notaries can spot the con, inexperienced/naive notaries are the mark.
I got the same twice !! Then I asked, " Give me your address, and I will visit you".
They never reply.
I got this as a text shortly after reading this. I also received 2 other texts a few days ago about couples wanting to do real-estate documents for purchasing a home, one wanted RON because one spouse being in a different country and needing to Zoom. I called them, my main rule is if someone won’t talk to me to give details over the phone I won’t continue to humor them. When the Second person messaged me I KNEW it was a scam. These are the #'s I recieved messages from: (210)219-3204, (567)377-5394, & (415)260-5228
Hey Carol, I just got the email, verbatim as yours; however, the individual went by the name of Natasha. But thankfully, I had already read your post, and I was super prepared, so I asked the person to state the exact docs that I would be notarizing and secondly give me an exact location where we would be meeting up for the notarization.
Then came the request for a Zoom meet. I happily informed the person that we notaries are not that stupid
as we are already on high alert, and to use his /her time to get a real job
.
Then it was crickets!
So thanks for the heads up!
Good for you! These low life’s are relentless.
I received the same email from a “Betty” with a similar beginning but went on with many more details, including her location which was about 30 minutes from me. I responded with my availability and fees and they responded saying they needed 30 notarizations but asked me to hop on a Zoom call. I told them I would but it would need to be on a link that I sent as I add read about this scam- they get you to click on the zoom link and then install malware on your computer to steal information. They emailed back with the zoom “link” and password and told me it didn’t make a difference who sent the zoom link. I bowed out but not before telling them I would be using my Mom’s computer and I couldn’t risk losing her “fortune” by using a link from a person I didn’t know.
This is indeed a scam and they are using on real estate professionals as well. If you happened to engage with them by clicking on the zoom link, I suggest looking into what you need to do to mitigate damage.
The nerve to tell you it didn’t matter who sent the link! They are getting desperate..
Sharing the most recent version with new names/emails. My favorite part, she signed her email with MY NAME!

I have edited the hyperlink so as not to let anyone click the link per the above request.
Wow! This happened to me last week, and I can say, I dodged a bullet! These fraudsters are coming up with new evil schemes daily to scam people! What caught my attention was when he asked me to conduct a Zoom Meeting to schedule the appointment! At first, he almost had me until I sat down and started thinking…''why would he want to conduct a ZM just to schedule an appt??!" Once I caught on to his scheme, I asked him to FaceTime me and send me his number! He quit emailing me after that! LOL ![]()
