The light at the end of the Artificial Intelligence tunnel

Greeting Notaries,

As Artificial Intelligence (AI) has begun to make greater head ways into our lives I wanted to offer my opinions regarding this new technology, hopefully dispelling some of the myths that seems to raising the collective social anxiety.

Most of the public anxiety is originating from our imagination and science fiction. Keep in mind that
AI developers are placing guardrails to restrict what AI can and cannot do. AI lacks the ability to create or mimic human thought processes. There’s little risk of AI becoming self aware. AI can be used by bad actors the facilitate criminal activities. Many States are changing Notary laws to help reduce and/or prevent fraud. As AI continues to evolve in similar manner as all technology do, things will change and new development rules and regulations will evolve as well.

My advice is for you to learn all you can about AI. Since AI is still new, some of what you’ll find online about how AI works may be coming from questionable sources. There’s a lot of junk information being proliferated from those offering master classes, to get rich quick schemes, prophetic message coming from poorly informed religious leaders. So, be careful where your research/information leads you.

We’re already seeing marketing of AI based tax preparation and bookkeeping services. Analysis of these AI based services by the IRS, various State Tax Boards, Tax and Accounting experts are showing there’s upwards of a 50% error rate that can leave you in financial trouble. Always use reputable service providers, including Do-It-Yourself Tax and Bookkeeping software.

This is not a solicitation for business. As always consult with a qualified professional.

My son writes code for AI. If the code writer isn’t a superior mathematician, it creates errors and problems. AI continues to learn. So if the math is faulty so is the learning.

It’s all about the math.

So agree with your comments. My son has worked with AI coders and other coders ~ garbage in and garbage out like any tech system. My feelings about AI still needs major improvements and sucks up too much energy.

About the only thing I find useful about AI is it’s pretty good at writing Excel formulas and is often helpful in fixing glitches. But you do have to apply human intelligence as it’s prone to not providing the simplest, quickest fix and will lead you into rabbitholes. If you don’t figuratively slap it upside the head every now & then, it tends to make mountains out of molehills.
