Anyone had experience using Thumbtack for business? Pros/Cons?

I just started using Thumbtack close to a month and a half ago. I’m still on the fence about how I feel about it. It could be a great vehicle to reach out to potential customers as you can provide your contact details when sending your quotes.
Pros:
Saw a notarization request come through and I didn’t respond because of the time frame they needed, but they wound up calling me directly so I didn’t have to pay the fee Thumbtack would have charged me for:) I’m assuming either no one else responded and he needed the notarization ASAP.
I’m going to give it a few more months. The good thing is that the company appears to try to take “pros” advice for improvement. Apparently they used to charge the “pro” for sending a quote, now you’re only charged if the customer contacts you.
Cons:
I will say that I saw a notarization request come through in which the name looked familiar to a notary’s name that I came across in my area. It appears that she posted the request possibly trying to see what other notaries are charging for certain acts. That didn’t sit well with me at all.
I have found that if you respond with a quote, the person requesting doesn’t always view the quote which is also strange to me.
Out of 17 quotes sent to date, 8 have viewed my quotes, only one has resulted in a job thus far. Not the greatest results, but it’s worth considering.

I think Thumbtack is a joke. If someone contacts me, even if I don’t get the job, I have to pay Thumbtack. It used to be I would only pay if I contacted the person. That way I didn’t have to contact people who I didn’t want to work for. NOW, if they contact me I have to pay whether I get the job or not. FURTHERMORE, Thumbtack decided what they will charge me. It can be different every time. I no longer use TT. If they go back to the “old way” I will reconsider.

Interesting because I’m still trying to figure out exactly how it works. Are you saying that the user (person looking for the service) has access to the pro’s profile and reach out to you without posting a request? Asking because I have been responding to only requests that I’m interested in that come up in my area. I’ve also had someone respond to my quote notifying me they decided to go another route and there was a notation that I would not be charged.
Thank you all for your input. I gave them a try…really seemed like a waste of time and money.
