Unauthorized Charges

Hey Everyone,

I had completed a job for a company about 5 months ago. I received payment the following month. Since then, I have opened a business account where I am now sending all payments for jobs. Previous to that, I had payments sent to a savings account I have on the side. Last Monday, I logged in and saw several overdraft charges on that account (savings account). When I contacted the bank, they told me that Snapdocs, the portal I used for that signing, was trying to withdraw that payment from my account. I then looked through my emails to see if they had emailed me about that signing or payment issues and nothing. I have reached out to Snapdocs by email and phone as well as the company who assigned me the order. I have not heard back from anyone. Any suggestions on what I can do? Has this happened to anyone before?

Bank auditor and fraud analyst for 40 years, here. If Snapdocs did not honor their payment to you (bounced check) and the payment was initially deposited to your savings account and you used the money, if there was not enough $ left in the account to cover the “bounced check”, the bank would “overdraw” the account and demand repayment. You’d have to go after the issuer to recover. Technically, banks cannot “overdraw” a savings account.

You’ll need to investigate why the bank is overdrawing your savings account and determine why the funds deposited have been dishonored (if that is, in fact, what happened).

I’ve never had a payment that someone tried to take back.

They did not provide a check it was a direct deposit and I did speak to the bank who then told me to contact Snapdocs.

After speaking with the client (Not the signer) they stated that the order was supposed to be on hold due to issues the signer was having with wording in the loan documents. When the signer refused to sign, I reached out and let the company know. They proceeded to tell me to just take the pictures and measurements of the rooms and that they would send out another order when the document terms were corrected. They never sent out another order for the signer and I never heard back after they confirmed the receipt of the pictures, measurements and payment amount confirmation. They now want their money refunded because they feel like they paid a lot for the order without the documents getting signed. If that was the cause, why mark the order as completed and pay me. Why not reach out to me again to renegotiate? Now I’m out all those over draft fees and they want their money back. I am not a happy camper.

That’s odd. My understanding of how SnapDocs pays on their Vendor Pay is: hiring entity pays SnapDocs; SnapDocs waits for that payment to clear; then, SnapDocs will issue the Vendor Pay payment (direct deposit). That’s why it takes several weeks for payment.

Get your ducks in a row and have a conference call with SnapDocs and the hiring party. Let them know you are disinterested party. You were hired to present the docs and take pix and measurements. You were not hired to sell the signer on signing anything.

jmho

I’m getting more and more frustrated about Snapdocs!!! Just this past week there was an issue with the complete package not being received. Owner called me direct. She was showing I had downloaded the documents. I took a screenshot and showed her that it had not. However it was time stamped along with the other documents. I had asked her employee (my contact) several times about the quantity of documents. It actually appeared to be a document recovery with other necessary paperwork. She took responsibility for his response and realized I had not been in receipt of the documents. There was obviously a problem with the platform and uploads. Moving forward with Snapdocs I will screenshot all docs received before downloading and printing.

Yes, she paid for the 2nd trip!

Bounced payment makes sense.
