Uptown Law & TCG Capital Group

Has anyone worked with either of these companies. Not to sound prejudice but around 4:00 today they BOTH make contact with me while I was busy here in the office. BOTH put the pressure on for me to sign Notary Agreements and Uptown requested the usual notary documents that they can find online but was a little insistent that I send them copies and sign everything within the next 30 minutes. I told him I would be glad to provide the credentials but not under pressure and I was already committed to another job at the time. I Google searched and found nothing. I checked here and it was old info. My biggest suspicion came with both contacting me within 10 minutes of each other out of the blue and there was a BIG language barrier with both! Coincidence? Or do I run for the hills?

Any sound words of encouragement or should I dodge a possible bullet?

Hi Connie, anyone who appears to be pressuring me to notarize something THAT QUICKLY I would also regard with some suspicion. And if I am already scheduled, even easier decision for me. I wouldn’t hesitate to politely decline their request, no matter how urgently they want it done.

But reserve judgement for next time. If the next time they contact you there is also this weird frantic urgency… probably safe to say you dodged a bullet.

p.s. Credential-wise, tell them to refer to your SigningAgent profile.

Thank you! I really appreciate the input. I did refer them to my profile. Obviously that’s how they found me.

Hi Carmen! Wanted to give you the update. I contacted the attorney that was on the cancelled assignment. We spoke at length about the situation. I had worked with this attorney several times over the past 4 years and he’s actually the one that recognized my name and this area. He checked and gave me specific dates. I verified what he was telling me. He stated that Uptown Law did not pressure people and felt the same as me, this could be a possible scam. Also, that the information that was being requested was more applicable to onboarding an attorney. He suggested I send an email detailing my concerns to Uptown and copy him (he provided me with email addresses). He did recognize the name of the first contact I had, and he didn’t think that was the way he operated. He did not know the 2nd contact I had.
Since the email, dead silence from Uptown.
This was just too crazy! Sticking with my instincts completely, moving forward. No job assignment is worth all this!

Thank you very much for the update. This kind of post and the subsequent follow-up are so valuable here. Scammers can be clever. Reminds me of the fake Xfinity emails I receive 3x day. Very smart to contact the attorney directly, Connie, your instincts are spot on.
