Company made me wait an hour, before offering me an assignment!

So, I saw a same-day signing pop up at 2:36 PM for 5 PM today. It was $125 for an 8-mile drive, and they wanted a faxback. I usually skip these types of situations, but I went ahead and applied for it around 2:40 PM and I didn’t even submit a counter offer requesting a higher fee. Never heard back, so I figured someone else got it. Then, at 3:34 PM, the signing service calls, asking if I’m still in. Rush hour in Jacksonville, FL, hits hard around 4 PM. I could’ve printed everything between 2:45 and 3:34, but the delay made me say no. I could’ve called the signer, but I had a bad feeling about it. That almost hour-long delay just seemed like a big red flag. Some of these companies act let we are just sitting around with nothing else to do, but to wait on their beck and call. Well truth be told, we do wait for signing orders offers. But I have position myself, not to be depended on receiving their phone calls, emails, or texts. I have other business options and a work life balance.

Yes absolutely, I tell them if they can get my rate approved in 10 minutes, go ahead and send me the assignment and I will confirm with borrowers. After 10 minutes, they need to call back to make sure I am still available. I’ll wait 10-15 minutes and then go about my regular day. I am not waiting indefinitely for anyone to send me an assignment confirmation. But if they waited too long to get back to me, it is entirely possible I may be available at a different time or may even not at all.

YES, YES, YES. Work is important to me, but so is my family.

I am so in agreement! It boils down to respect for each other. If they cannot respect your time, they need a wake-up call. My pet peeve is the SS that lowballs a fee and you counter with a reasonable or even your minimal fee, and they spend a day or more increasing their offer $5 or $10 a pop just chipping away at a huge gap as if you have nothing better to do than sit by the phone for an auction. I am wary of these deals because I feel they will find some way to claim flaws after the fact and knock down your fee afterwards.

@thenotariusgk While it’s disheartening to see some signing service companies utilize questionable fee strategies, it’s equally concerning that some signing agents seem to accept these manipulations, potentially undermining our professional standards and the fair compensation all professionals deserve.

In those situations, what happens a lot of times is that a notary will take the job and then when they learn the details, they back out. That’s when you get a call an hour later that you’ve been “awarded” the job.

@steves11 Yeah, probably my fee or schedule changed an hour later.

Monday I was assigned three counter offers from Friday. I thought it was interesting there was no call to confirm I was still available. My calendar has been such that I haven’t had a lot of open time to take same day assignments. But getting jobs assigned the day after I counter is happening more and more. They’re trying to get someone cheaper, is my read on it. If they pay my fee and I’m still available I’ll take it. I take nothing personally. There is no intended disrespect, it’s just not being very concerned with someone else. You can’t take the AI a platform is using to schedule personally. They certainly don’t.

Not being very concerned with someone else is disrespect. We are not random people, but supposedly working together for the common goal of a successful signing.

You’re dealing with an AI program. To an AI program we are in fact random people. I guess I just have thicker skin after 40 years in the Corporate world.

Maybe it is an AI program, but apparently not everyone uses it. Maybe we don’t need to roll over and take it from those that do.

Respect is overrated I don’t care if people respect me or not.

The world is tough enough without feeling disrespected over what really is nothing. That’s just my opinion.

Respect is supposed to be mutual. Strap on your kneepads if you don’t care.
