Verb vs. noun rant

I have an itch to scratch
Can we all agree that

Notary- is a noun, not a verb

To make it a verb we say , we notarize, or we perform notorial acts
or we witness signatures

There, I said it, and now I feel better

@jennjoneis It’s challenging to “read” ever since “texting” and "voice-to-text" has infiltrated our communication channels.

It may help (or maybe not . . .) to:

  • pause
  • count to 5 (slowly)
  • gently remind yourself that most are simply endeavoring to share 'n care in the way that is easiest for them . . .
  • gather & process the information - extracting the valuable and discarding the chaff :tada::palm_tree:

Hope this helps :heavy_heart_exclamation::hibiscus:

Thank you! I see that all the time and don’t know why.

Its “notarial acts,” not notorial. There’s no such word.

Why are you telling me? are you another zealous freak of the English language? I just was following another Notary who coined that phrase…

Sorry. I have no idea who made it up but it’s wrong. Am i a zealous what? You left out a word. And yes, I’m a member of The Grammar Police.

It’s a noun, Because a noun is a person, place, or thing. When we notarize a document then it becomes an action because we’re now doing something (signing and stamping)

interesting. So what happens when you “do a notary”. used in the sentence; Hi honey, I have to go out and do a Notary.
sure that’s OK. Do you have protection?

Haha. That really drives me crazy!! If it’s your work, then use the right language.

There is a difference between spelling and grammar. Notorial is not a word no matter how it is used in a sentence. Make certain you are correct on all points before you use your wordsmithing ability to correct others.

An additional way to tell I know someone well enough to not ask for ID when I perform notarial acts for them: I have their name added to my spell checker.
