$90 Fee 200 pages - What should I do?

Keep in mind that for boated packages whether they like it or not you can respectfully let them know that you need a higher fee. Some may give you BS about you accepted, no you did not know the package was a novel with boat in advance. So don’t be afraid to speak up for yourself. anything ove 150-160 pages is unecessary bloat or they stuck you with prelim paperwork too and you should be compensated for it.

If it’s not listed with the other information, prior to accepting, I always ask them how many pages when they call me to confirm my availability.

@NotaryLadyBre That’s a great plan & your policy mirrors the one I’ve employed for nearly two decades within this business sector.

.

In my direct experience, there are a few Signing Services [SSs] that hesitatingly state:

  • “we don’t know the number of pages”
  • “the package size hasn’t been revealed to us”
  • “we haven’t received the document package yet”
  • Etc.

If it’s conveyed in that manner (hesitatingly), I’m alerted to advise during the confirmation call regarding Fee adjustment if the document package is extraordinarily voluminous, based upon the standard package size for the type of closing.

Case in point, this week a scheduler reached out for booking a Signing Order [SO] & presented it as one property. Later in the extended conversation, the item arose that, in fact, there are 2 properties with multiple signers.

This discovered fact resulted in the adjustment of the Fee quotation for the professional services requested.

Sharing this direct experience to highlight that it’s very important to not only know what to ask, but to listen intently as well to their replies. Often, detected clues will help you more accurately price your professional services.

.

Best Wishes :tada:

Thank you! If I ever get any of those responses, I am definitely going to advise of fee adjustments as well.

Just my opinion, but we shouldn’t leave our house for less than $100. Try getting a plumber or an electrician to come to your house and do anything for less than $100.

Sounds like Timios / Carrington. Their offers via their website are all $90. They don’t accept counter offers but lately Timios has been putting orders on snapdocs which makes me wonder if they are having trouble filling orders at $90. I stopped working for Timios when they refused to include a printing fee on an order 240 pages. I quote jobs with a “regular” print job included. But those big 200+ page packages - those aren’t usual. When they appear on snapdocs even when they are close I counter Timios with an added print fee. They want to get new notaries who think $90 is great.

I loved Timios assignment because they were so easy. Just a lot of paper. The Timios check always was on time. But now - they have to pay a higher printer fee like everyone else. Paper has gotten ridiculous. I stopped when I took a $90 job and it was over 220 pages and I got lectured by someone at Timios that I knew when I accepted printing was part of that fee. So now on snapdocs I counter higher because no one is sending 220 page packages anymore.

It might not even be that company. When I get something that includes a 50 page appraisal report I ask for more money. And I only print it for the signer.

It’s been a few days - where did you end up with this job?

@NotaryLadyBre You’re very Welcome! :tada:

FWIW… way I look at print fee. $25 is m/l standard & my idea of standard is ‘flat rate of $25 covers up to 125 pages’, which loosely works out to $5/25 pages, so that m/l works out to an add’l $5/25 pages or part thereof of bloat. It isn’t just paper, toner included in ‘print’ fee, it’s TIME to print, prep, table time, too. No, I don’t fuss over 129 pg, but at 140, yep, more $ required in $5/25 page increments. And, yes, I will ‘consider’ a slight $5 reduction for smaller pkgs ((50 pg or less) OR include scans in orig. $25 ‘print’ fee. Just makes the math easier.

Often when we receive an offer there is no page count listed. I have started countering with the caveat “150 pages or less”. So far, I haven’t received any of those counter offer assessments!

That many pages definitely sounds like more than a standard refi. It is either a VA or reverse mortgage. In any event, it will take at least 1.5 hours with the signer, not to mention printing time and expense. Today, I saw 3 last minute requests with with lowball fees. It was the same order over and over.
