Last week my phone dinged with the distinctive sound of an offer from BancServ. I quickly opened the app and saw the offer for a refi within a reasonable drive for $100. I won the race and got the order. For those not familiar the blast doesn’t provide any information on the transaction. I received the documents and discovered a package of 195 pages x 2. I immediately emailed them and said the fee was unacceptable. They upped the fee by $15. I told them to remove me. They said an average refi package is 200. IMO that’s a big flaw with there system.
$15?!? That’s an insult… rip-off artists
It seems as if a lot of companies that have been known to pay fair and well have been coming down on their prices. My thoughts are they figured if all the other companies are starting out with low fees and notaries are accepting them why should they pay higher fees. I hope this trend doesn’t continue.or maybe I’m mistaken
We just have to hold the line on fees that’s all you can do. What would be more insulting as if no one ever contacted you for a job ever
I do agree we do just have to hold the lines. I’m confused on you saying that it would be insulting for no one to ever contact me for a job. What does that even mean ? I have a right to talk about the fees. I fully understand what might be low for me might be fine for someone else.
Sure, you can say what you want about fees I can also point out that after years of listening to the lament about fees, it gets old. And Notaries don’t like to recognize that many of the Signing services view this forum and whether we like it or not, it can have an impact on our reputation with them. It’s not a personal attack.
Understandable, I do recognize and I’m quite sure most notaries do know that signing services also belong to these groups. However no one was bashing the signing services or saying anything negative . The truth is the truth. We can clearly see the changes that have been occurring in fees etc… and I would hope that the signing services stay professional and not hold this against a notary for stating what they have observed. It is just an observation that anyone could see. I know that it is not a personal attack.
I agree with you on that. There should be standards with regard to fees. I’m just not sure we’ll ever have control of that.
I believe that’s exactly what’s happening. The good-paying companies see the other companies getting away with low fees, and they ask themselves why they should pay more than they have to. The only way to stop that trend is to not accept low fees. Easy to say, I know, but harder to get people to actually follow through on it.
No, it’s not a personal attack on anyone, especially if you don’t use the name of a specific signing service but keep it general in nature.
Bancserv’s additional fees may vary depending on the NSA’s agreement with them. For example, my agreement with them dates back to 2009 and (unfortunately) I’ve never amended it. My base fee for each package is $150. Additional fees are $25 for large packages, $25 for scans, $25 for Spanish, $25 signing w/POA, $25 for more than 3 signers and long distance fees vary (I cover a large territory).
When a company sends me their agreement, I review it and if fees are listed and don’t comply with my business plan, I amend their schedule of fees. Sometimes, we negotiate. Most times, they agree.
If there is no written agreement and they simply call, after asking all pertinent questions, I quote my fee explaining the reasons (extra services, distance, language, etc.). If it’s a blast offer, I’ll counteroffer and give my reasons.
I always keep the conversation professional and courteous. Most times, my fees are accepted; sometimes, not. Either way, I always wish them a great rest of their workweek. It’s business, not personal.
This is what works for me. Each one of us must determine how we run our business.
Really?
- this company came highly recommended by Notary 2 Notary. I finally was able to sign up at the last quarter. So I look forward to working with BancServ. Hopefully, I will be able to build a good rapport. I think their could be a simple conversation should a fee be in question. I haven’t seen any listings yet, but I’ve also been traveling this summer. However, I am back.
@thatsavvyofficiant As stated by the Original Post [OP]:
That isn’t the Fee proffered by BancServ for the Signing Order [SO] => it’s the proffered Fee for the additional Print Fee for the Oversized Document package.
The Fee proffered by BancServ for the SO was identified as $100.

Okay. I read this in the wee hours. I see. So they only upped it to $15 bucks? Trust and believe, I know how ink can go in a heartbeat. I have 2 HP LaserJet printers. Currently only using one (both relatively new and use the same cartridge; one is an all-in-one and the other just a printer), and the cartridge alone can cost up to $70, although admittedly, that’s the only cartridge I need to purchase, and it can print up to 1500 pages.
That being said, I think the issue is that the notaries can stand to be more communicative, should there be an issue with the fee schedule.
I like this. Thanks for sharing.
I understand this statement completely.
This is a good point. I tend to state my opinion neutrally. It definitely isn’t a great idea to bash - these forums are for the public. I wouldn’t because I am grateful to build a professional rapport. The companies I’ve worked for have been kind and even advocate for their notaries.
As per the rest, progress doesn’t get done by just complying. These forums are here so that we can have an outlet. The notary community is needed. We are out here in the field filling a gap for signing and title companies, as well as banks. More importantly, it’s the signer who really needs us, especially in the most rural areas where there are no notaries, and so we are left to trek to those areas. I think everything starts with communication.
I just signed up with BancServ last month, and I look forward to my first assignment.
1500 pages may only be 5 average size packages (150 pages x 2). Where are you getting laser cartridges that are only $70?
You can buy recycled laser at Amazon for about that.
the real problem are all the new notaries that will do 195 pages in a heartbeat for $100 they would actually do it for less
