I was informed this week that the drop off receipt that you receive from a FedEx Store kiosk is not a legit receipt and I could still be liable for the package. I was instructed to wait in line and get a receipt from the front counter clerk. This is the “official” receipt. Has anyone heard of this?
We don’t have FedEx stores here (NE Tennessee) anymore so we have to drop at a third party site. We don’t get a paper receipt at all. They only receipt we can get is an email or text confirmation. I have used the UPS kiosk when they are backed up at the counter and the receipt is identical to the one you get from the counter employee. Not sure how the receipt wouldn’t be legitimate. Who told you that?
Yes, I just get in line because if you put it in the box the staff still have to remember
to take it out of the box in time, scan it again and then send it next day air
I had a situation at a location (that I will never go to again) where that happened.
The new staff forgot to check the box in time
When I use the kiosk at UPS I always take the package and hand it to them.
I have never heard of that and personally have to raise the flag. I’ve never once had a SS complain or say the receipt I uploaded wasnt trackable and I NEVER stand in line.
With that said, let me add, I also DO NOT drop it in the box that the scanner is next to. I always hand it to a FedEx rep, after I scan.
I’ve never been told that and I use the kiosk at the FedEx store all the time. Their system tells them to clear the box.
@jwonsik41 That’s very interesting indeed to read about your direct experience . . .
In my direct experience none of my clients have ever said anything of that nature about NOT scanning in the package at the shipper kiosk.
After I scan in the package at the kiosk, I go to the counter & hand the package to the staff member, who then places a monitoring/tracking device onto the package.
FYI: I have never placed a priority overnight package into the shipper kiosk receptacle after scanning it.

My understanding is that if you get the receipt from the machine, it counts as you having dropped off the package whenever it’s timestamped. Otherwise, what good is the receipt? That was a huge upgrade by /Fedex when they installed those machines that you could get a receipt from. Standing in line for a half hour was certainly no fun.
For my own peace of mind, I’ve always stood in line to get a receipt from the clerk.
At FedEx I ran into another notary dropping 4 packages in the kiosk. She wasn’t worried about it either.
I’ve had to, on occasion, email those receipts to the lender or title company to prove that I’d shipped the packages. They accepted them with no problem.
Only from Coast2Coast. The service that take 2 months or more to pay
I use the FedEx kiosk daily and have never had any questions about the kiosk receipt or problems with delivery. But - then I walk to the front of the line and hand the package to the FedEx clerk. I do not drop the package in the kiosk box. So far so good.
I had several fedex stores and regional facilities .i always dropped at one of them ..no kiosk. Person to person..
UPS HAD stores or ship and pack locations
I did same procedure
I NEVER ever had a delivery problem
I don’t take closing with them any more because of it
I usually do put the package in the receptacle, especially if all of the clerks are busy with other customers. The only time I won’t put it in the receptacle is if the receptacle is full and the package won’t fully fit into it without sticking out, so someone can pull it out of the receptacle. This happens mostly when people stuff boxes in there. So far, I’ve had no issues with any packages getting lost because of leaving them in the receptacle.
If I can get the package scheduled soon enough I have them pick it up at my office for FedEx, UPS charges for pickup, for them I go to the local dropoff and get a receipt for them. I can even schedule a Saturday pickup from FedEx at my home, so it is completely trackable. Some may want to try this if you are in a location that can do that. There are no excuses then. I know someone had a problem that UPS actually lost the package and they had a receipt as well. There is still no guarantee of anything in this world.
I never never never drop at a box or kiosk, I only drop at a shipping center with the rep, or with a live rep at a franchise store. I also have the rep record the weight of the package on the label. This takes a little more time, but the regular face time with the clerks has saved me on a couple of close calls at cut-off, whereby they hold a truck when they see me several spots down waiting line, because I’m a regular. Once I have the receipt in hand…its out of my hands!
Hi Friend, the reason you are being told this is that there’s a lot that can happen between the Kiosk and that machine. Often times the employees miss things when they sweep for pickup. So, delivering to the counter helps ensure that it gets on their trucks. Technically, it should be on FedEx if this happens but since Loan Signings and most things we do are usually high priority they want you to take the path of least resistance. However, the desk clerks often mis-place packages just as much from the counter too. At the end of the day, if you deliver to the desk and get a receipt it’s just one less way they can complain about your service since you’ve done everything you can to ensure it makes it out after you drop it. Hope this helps!
