GPS like it or not?

I set direction when I leave the house. If I go through areas with no service it keeps that map alive. I once was on my way out of county and the map was giving me a route that was over an hour longer than the way I usually go to that location. Maps knew about the road closure due to an overturned apple truck and I should have listened. Made for a terrible morning. I use Maps from iPhone and it seems very reliable so far.

@alice2uworld Yes, indeed! It’s easy to be quickly “Left Behind” in the current technical/electronic environment. :white_check_mark:

.

If I have to go anywhere on the freeway, I always check 30-60 minutes before I leave the house to see what the drive time is to my destination. I can then choose an alternate route before it’s too late, if the usual route is clogged.

So true ~ will only be in the game for a few more years ~ by that time AI will have everything messed up. Note regarding tech world: Tech companies currently buying up climate controlled storage companies to store “Cloud” equipment. Wonder what future “Cloud” storage will be.

Everything is already on cloud.

@alice2uworld I wonder that as well . . . :thinking:

Hope you’re enjoying the Spring Weather! :sun_with_face:

Yes Cloud is very active in tech world but TECH 2.0 is on they way. My thoughts is this will be a mess like AI until the kinks are worked out. Waiting as long as possible to update my devices ~ perhaps 1.5 years from now because won’t have a choice.

Hi just now enjoying spring weather. My friend came to visit 1st week of April and gave me and my family COVID. We all had vaccines and this was my 1st time having COVID and since I’m 75 seemed to get it worse than other family members. I’m still above ground and on the mend. Many different virus’s circulating in WA now ~ might be a good idea to break out the masks again so we can all look like bandits again.

I use my phone and its generally good. Years ago, we had to use a seperate GPS. I still use mine in the mountains. Dumb thing keptvtelling me to turn right - right into the side of a mountain. Had it take me on a scary path once after a detour on a major highway. My car was a huge rear wheel drive and i got stuck on a muddy, rutted hill. I had no cell. Scared me some. I managed to get out and cicumvent the trees until i found some kind of road in the dark. There was nothing on the atlas i used to carry. I was on my way from denver to durango, which is ususlly an easy drive. I was not prepared to hike out.

 Nooooo!!! So very sorry to read that, Alice! :pensive_face:The 1st time is the WORST. On the subsequent COVID-19 ‘visits’ you’ll fare MUCH better as that is typically the way that virus functions. Masking up would probably be a healthy choice if they’re N-95s.

Take good care of yourself please :growing_heart:

My car has often times tried to take me a different way than Google maps. I always check Google for my route before leaving as far as highways. Then program my car but still have Google ready using my dash phone mount incase they disagree or if I need a live update.

I use Waze and have almost never have issues. Even when driving to the mountains where there is zero cell service in some parts. I have apple car play and it automatically loads. I put my appointments in my calendar and when I open Waze the address is there - 99% of the time that is. If I know basically where I am going, I can turn off turn by turn directions. I sometimes use Google Maps also without issue.

I prefer to utilize my own stand-alone GPS and not rely on any other. I even carry a backup GPS of an identical model…just in case. They’re not really that expensive.

I live in a rural area of Montana and did have a challenge yesterday. I use Maps on GPS and I print out the route before I go in the event I have no cell service.. The area I was going to had no road signs to figure out where to turn and I had no cell service. I ended up finally finding service on top a hill and signers agreed to meet me in town. That is the second time I have gone to that area and had the same problem. From now on I will request to meet them in town.

Just a suggestion, I always print the google map directions, so I have a hard copy to refer to if needed and it also serves as documentation for my year end mileage log.

I take some assignments that go through dead zones with no cell service. If I have directions on before I get to that dead zone my directions don’t go away. Not sure if that’s an iphone thing or a maps thing or what. But I know if I leave the directions on I don’t run into that problem.

@Docsign Excellent Plan! :tada: I utilize an identical procedure (prior to leaving the office), because one never knows when the cell service might “drop” the signal.

That’s how the demonic forces work; always trying to spoil your progress in financial wealth. The enemy will never win because the Lord Jesus overcame the world on the cross. :sunny:

I receive your words of encouragement. As a Christian myself, I can understand your comment and would be open to fellowship with you. There’s a third factor we should consider, anything made by men or women can experience failure. In business this is known as “planned obsolescence is a business strategy in which products are intentionally designed to become outdated or non-functional after a certain period.” Sometimes things just happen for no unknown reason(s)..

When going to remote mountain locations in Colorado, I ask the signers for directions. Often times they know a shorter or better route. I also ask for landmarks.
