Hope that we all are have a fantastic Spring signing season. I wanted to point out that the website SigningOrder.com is, both open call posting and sending signings via texts to notaries, using figures that are drastically short on mileage. In the last week they have sent me an assignment to accept that was 50 additional miles away, one that was 68 additional miles, and one that was 73 extra miles. I refused them all due to not wanting to drive 2 plus hours and there was the issue of fees.
I have contacted signingorder.com tech support 12 days ago, but this issue is still going on, including on their open posting list. Right now there are 8 open jobs to be claimed with one way mileage amounts that are 35 to 118 miles off ( I’m in S. Florida).
Other notaries here are experiencing the same thing, as i have talked to several i know. Just a heads up to check your miles so that you don’t get in a bad situation.
At least SO provides the actual address, which I can quickly ‘map’ to determine actual mileage & drive time. SD does not…meaning you’re m/l accepting or countering while ‘blind’ to your actual costs (drive TIME & COST/mile). Both stating as the crow flies mileage and not providing actual location seem to me to be intent to deceive.
I’m in an area where I know the mileage for just about everywhere. In my area I take many signings with drive times but I also receive the fees I request for these signings. SigningOrder is one of my favorite platforms because I get paid twice a month. Everything we do is impacted by the region we serve. The best defense is to have a good understanding of that region. IMO.
I knew they were posting as the crow flies mileage, and I agree that practice is deceptive.
However, I have never had them post signings sayinh they are 20 miles away, and then like you checking it on Google maps and finding out they are in a suburb of Daytona Beach, 120 miles away. I agree with your assessment on SnapDocs as well.
I respectfully disagree. Being in an area where there are so many small towns and my county is one of the largest by land mass in the state, it is impossible for me to know every small area. I literally have roads i drive down where the township changes 4 times in 1 mile, and the county twice. I do think there is some responsibility on the platforms part, since we provide them with our exact address, to be within 5 miles distance. GPS technology isn’t that difficult for their programming staff to figure out.
I don’t really understand why you would disagree with what I know about my own region. I’m in the largest county in my own state. I have a reputation as being willing to go places no one goes. Maybe you’re in Michigan. I’m in Washington. After 4 years, there’s really no location that surprises me when it comes to mileage. There are areas where the address is called a town, but I know by now how far out of that town those addresses are, and that’s how I charge. As far as the AI the platform uses - that’s a coding error. It’s not inexpensive to fix a coding error like that one. But anyway. For myself - I just know every small area. And every area is a small area.
It’s just ‘interesting’ that the 2 major factors in determining a fair fee (Drive time/mileage and pkg. size/materials used/time at table) are the 2 pieces of info never given or accurate.
I thought it was just me! I would send an offer based on my mileage I come up with and I am not getting many responses.
I pay for the 20 zip codes and tbqh I am maybe getting a few extra offers a month.
If the mileage is wrong than I don’t think paying the fee is worth it.
Funny you mention paying extra for zip codes as most of the ‘offers’ I receive are waaay out of my service area by hundreds of miles. Some aren’t even in my state. And I’m not paying for more zips…get 'em anyway.,
Not all computer generated mileages are correct. My husband and i had shared our location with eachother on Google maps for years. I had realized that mileage was off when it would say for example he was 94 miles away and when i then hit directions, it would change to 110 miles. Leaves me to think that at that point when not asking for directions Google was just ddrawing a straight line between us as measurment. Then using actual driving miles when asking for directions. I hope this makes sense as yes, the offer may say 20 miles away because it literally means away and not driving miles. It is up to us as notaries to figure out the mileage before we accept. I know my radius by town names. If not ask Google maps before i accept.
Those offers arecsent out to multiple people, not just you! You accept what you want. If the location is not in your area or too far, DON’T TAKE IT!!! All alerts are not person specific. They are just sent out at once in hopes of being accepted by someone. Stick to what’s in a good range for you.
Perhaps you should speak to the tech support department at Signing Order. I did. They specifically state that the website sends out custom mikeage amounts to each notary. In otherwords, If i view an offered signing and someone 20 miles away from.me views that same signing offer, the displayed mileage will be different. Not everyone sees a generic mileage.
On an added note, this is my 3rd time posting to this website. Im not a new Notary by any means, as i have been in the industry since 2002 in multiple states. I can say however that this forum is full of unhinged pitbull mentality types whi would rather attack thdn uplift.
Its very demonstative of the race to the bottom thst is occurring in this industry. Fees are dropping because we have notaries that will cut another notaries throat just for a quick buck or throw another notary under the bus for attempting to better our industry.
I don’t plan on posting here any further and will not renew my subscription. I wish you all well, but many of you have anger issues.
I’m in the Florida Keys which SO often assumes I’ll take an assignment in Miami(which is a different country(LOL). I stay in Monroe County, thank you very much.
Where I am, SO has a job board but the locations are well over 2 hours away. I wait for the ones that are closer and counter with a request for a travel fee where it’s needed. I don’t get every offer, but I get enough to keep me looking at their signing offers.
