Appreciate that as a business owner we can sometimes customize our client base to defined parameter options for our project scope availability.
I often see unusual scenarios appear in my business as well. Some schedulers at Signing Services [SSs] respond quite negatively when told that there is no opening available in the schedule to accommodate a last-minute Signing Order [SO] request that is an hour (or more) of travel time to the signer’s preferred signing location.
I think i have been removed by one platform. I still show a high rating though, but there must be I internal notes. They had jerked me around for 3 days. Changing dates and times and even canceling at one point. No communication with me except the email I got noting they had posted something on the notes. I had turned down higher paying jobs for this nonsense. Then, I made an error. It was a late Friday evening closing. I took it to fedex on Saturday and did not verify their pickup time. The lender was furious that they did not get docs on Monday. A big bank. I got reemed out. I apologized, but noted that it was the bank that had gone back and forth on the whole thing. I made the mistake of using 2 exclamation points. Evidently, in text speak, that is yelling. Karen at the bank yelled at the SS, whose rude karen in turn called and reemed me out. I told her that 1. I’m 78 and don’t speak text and 2. As a former English teacher, 2 exclamation points was emphasis, not yelling. I get emails for jobs, but not jobs.
Keep in mind, although I do not do this as a full time job, I’ve been doing it 24 years and am a complete and through professional. Usually!

May be in doghouse with 2 good clients. 1. 8 AM: Call for a last minute Seller pkg. at 10 AM. Working around another 11 AM appt. Call signer/she wants 10:30. Close, but still doable. At 9 AM, no docs; Title wants to delay to early afternoon. OK by me/NOT w/signer who says no later than 12. Advise TC of noon & must have docs by 10. (to print & still make the 11 AM &, docs in hand, drive to noon Seller. TC can’t get me docs 'til 11:30, earliest. I must give back. And then I get reemed for accepting, trying to change Appt. time & last minute cancelling.
Day before, accept refi pkg for noon next day. Day of signing, no docs at 10 or even 11 AM. Title says re-schedule for early afternoon. Signer says by 3PM or after 8. I am not available after 5 PM & let TC know has to be before 3PM or re-assign. I don’t have docs by 2. Tell TC re-assign. Docs arrive at 5:37, but I’m not home and don’t even see them until 7:30…and it’s a HUGE pkg. Well, as I’m home NOW, I can do it, but the fee has to be renegotiated. They ‘have to get approval’…and I hear nothing so don’t print. At 8, get email–can I do it at 8:30? Not unless bigger fee is approved AND I can’t print/drive by 8:30–have to be 9 PM! At 8:30, new ‘canudo’ for half of what I’d quoted blings in. ‘I’m not available’ is only reasonable reply. At 9 PM new email…can I do it at 10 PM/fee now approved. Absolutely not. But, I’m the bad guy.
I guess they have younger and cheaper people to replace us with. I remember the day I was in fedex. There’s a young woman about my granddaughter’s age dropping off 7 packages. I should have asked, but she did not even know how to package them. She said she and boyfriend worked together. He answered offers and printed and scanned. She picked up packages and presented. All I could think of was that she knew someone at a title company.
As long as they are sending you emails for jobs, they have not suspended you. ‘Someone else has just accepted them before you did.
Yes, we are treated like crap. That’s just how it is. It doesn’t pay to lash out at them verbally. It can only cost you business. Sit down and write a comprehensive email to them and calmly explain the entire situation. It may or may not help you but it will at least clear the air going forward.
How close do you live to the signing location? A huge package to start printing at 8pm and you can be there by 8:30? That sounds pretty impossible to me unless you either live on the same block as the signing location or you have a teleportation machine.
Had docs. Was close enough for a ‘print & run’…not at 8:30, but could have made 9 PM IF they had also approved-in-writing higher fee I’d asked for & repeated hours earlier. When they asked about 8:30, they still hadn’t ‘approved’ fee increase! Enough, already.
Thank you. I hope not. This was the first time I had dealt with this young woman. And had been called by another one to verify other assignments before the went out on e blast. I ignored most of karen’s arrows, even asking a question giving her a chance to educate me. At my age, im less inclined to want to be that blow up clown you’d punch and watch him bounce back up.
You’ve missed some fun if you haven’t dealt with a karen. The kind who say “ i dont feel safe” at strange times. I feel sorry for their bosses whose business model does not include a time out chair.
