Just A Bit of History

Marcus Tullius Tiro (103 BC-4 BC) is often regarded as the first Notary Public. He was initially a slave and then a freedman secretary for Marcus Tullius Cicero, a Roman statesman, lawyer, scholar and philosopher.

There’s a TV series that ran on HBO for 2 seasons called Rome and includes Cicero and Tiro
in several episodes.
