Notaries Through History - 117 AD

We will continue to celebrate National Notary Day throughout the week with a short fun fact each day!

Did you know that the modern notary can trace their roots back to ancient Rome?

The tabularius was a clerk who took and preserved evidence in the Tabularium (public records office) and the notarius was a secretary who took notes during judicial proceedings.

Both worked primarily in the Forum, a large plaza that was the center of religious, political and social activities in Rome.
