Just Not Enough Time

Had a signing cancel last week because documents weren’t ready and then it was canceled altogether because the signer wasn’t happy.

I got first refusal and took it for noon today but it’s an hour and 40 minutes away and without documents by 10am I told them it was going to be a no go because I took it in spite of having two other appointments later in the day. And it’s so disappointing when this happens because I turned down a more local appointment that conflicted with it and now I wish I had taken the more local job instead of the drive over the hills and through the dale.

Maybe I’ll get another local offer that works. But oh, I just hate it when this happens.

Hang in there it could be worse.

I decided to pull it off anyway with the caveate no scan until late and shipping tomorrow

I start asking “What is the ETA for the documents? I have multiple signings tomorrow.” If I do not have docs by 2 hours before, I usually have them remove me unless its something I can accommodate. Usually there is so much work I can always make it up on another signing or insurance survey. I feel I have enough work that 2 of me can not keep up. Which I am not whining about too much, but still.

Although uncommon, over time, this will happen, repeat and happen again. If you performing signings regularly, count on it happening quarterly…Life of a NSA….best to call, email and text SS and/or Title, (as one other suggested), provide a deadline and asked to be removed based on the deadline, or self cancel, when it becomes obvious that for logistic and technical reasons the signing just isn’t going to happen. Generally when I self-cancel for late docs, there are no hard feelings or consequence from SS or Title as they are just hoping you have nothing else going on and hope you are happy with twitting fingers and stressing out waiting for the docs and won’t have to find somebody else last minute to complete the order…

It’s so easy to look back and say “I shoulda, coulda,” right? We’ve all been there, regretting taking one job over another, only to be like, “Why did I do that?!” Yep, that’s just the way this biz is. With a 3.2-hour round trip in your area, those signing fees gotta be pretty sweet.s…

Same! I’m 3-7 signings a day busy. Most have travel. I always send an ETA email the evening before letting them know I have a signing at x times in x towns. That seems to do the trick for those stacked days. I’ve only ran into one day recently where I was zig zagging all over the place to print because the docs weren’t ready. It was a 7 signing day. I think I gained a few more gray hairs that day.

4 is about all I can handle going as far afield as I do. I don’t care to drive in the dark much these days.

That’s fair! I’m in a mountain area. Mt Rushmore is 35 minutes away. Our deer and elk are Kamikazes starting about dinner time. RIP to Pearl that was taken out by a 10 pt buck going 75 mph on the interstate last year. I don’t name cars anymore after that one. Every named car has been totaled by weather or a critter. I did tap a doe going 25 mph 3 months after getting this one. All it did was broke a clip in the front bumper. WHEW!

Winter is coming. It’ll reduce my signings because of road and driveway conditions in the mountains. I have, however, parked at the bottom of the drive, threw my bibs and boots on and hoofed it up. I never turn down the coffee or hot chocolate after that!
