Notary Cafe - personal info

I am trying to put all my info into Notary Cafe, it is asking for URL’s to upload insurances, commission, etc. I’m confused, these are not URL’s

Ignore that “Document Links” section (that is for people who have uploaded / hosted their documents online somewhere else and want to add a link to those documents using a URL). Just list your notary info under “State Licenses,” your insurance info under “Insurances,” your background check info under “Background Checks” etc.

Awesome. I’m new at this, one more questions; there is a section to insert your background check. Is that the live scan?

I don’t know what live scan is, I got my background check through the NNA.

when I took they notary class, Live Scan fingered printed me for $80 at the class. I thought that was for the background check…

Sorry, again I have no idea. I was not required to be fingerprinted here in the state of Texas, I don’t know what requirements are in other states.

Lori, the requirement for BGCs (background checks) is best satisfied with an “approved” vendor -

NNA, Notary Rotary (NR), Sterling, LexisNexis* . . .

The NNA is widely recognized and usually includes a Signing Agent “certification.” Many hiring companies demand an annual check (4 per commission) because the idea was “force” fed to the industry that the BGC expires after 11 months. I’ve rejected this notion for My business - as I do not want my private info in the hands of unregulated groups.

Whichever you choose, make sure you research which one is accepted/preferred by the companies you generally work for. Many notaries have yielded to several background checks to satisfy their vendors - and been vetted to the hilt!

lori_macias75, you don’t mention what state you are commissioned in. I’ve read that California requires a set of live scan fingerprints, and performs a background check. I’ve also noticed that some title companies or signing service don’t accept the CA background check; I don’t know why.

Most states do not perform any background check on notaries.

Yes, if you are in CA, a background check is required to get your commission. From what I understand, when the NNA convinced the title world that we, the signing agents who do loan doc signings, should have a background check every year. They won’t accept CA’s because they don’t check your driving record, as if that has anything to do with signing docs. It was just another way for the NNA to separate us from our money. When this all started you could only go through NNA to get your background check but now the title companies let you go through Sterling as Another option, so that’s who I get mine through.
