Background check

Background check

Just wondering which background check does everybody go through

There are several…Sterling, NotaryRotary & NNA. Thus far, the universally accepted one is NNA…But be aware that you do NOT have to be an NNA member to obtain both the BGC and a listing in the SigningAgent directory; nor do you have to take the Certification test–that nobody seems to care about (tho’ you still have to pay the ā€˜pkg. price for both’).

I’ve gone through Crimcheck on a recommendation from Notary2Pro, which was $40. I’m finding that some signing companies only accept NNA’s background check. To-date, I have not gone through NNA, but I am considering it.

If you haven’t gone through a background check yet, I’d recommend the more-expensive but universally-accepted (@Arichter, thanks!) NNA check from experience so you don’t pay twice.

A note: from what I’ve seen, Notary2Pro is not happy with only NNA-official background checks being accepted at some companies and is speaking up. If anybody else can shed light on that situation (or if I misunderstood), some clarification would be welcome.

Think you most likely heard it right. It is a ā€˜shame’ (for lack of a better word) that one ā€˜for-profit’ (YES, they are) co. is ā€˜recognized’ as being THE place to obtain a BGC, when, in fact, others are just as good but not ā€˜acceptable to all’. Frankly, the only thing the NNA does best is promote themselves TO the people who hire us as the end-all, be-all. It would be nice to have a real choice, but, regardless of the lobbying being done, I just don’t see it happening. Every year I just hold my nose & pay them as little as possible.

Again so agree with your comments. I’m in WA State and the CA Lobbyists where NNA is based are probably well paid and well versed in the method of ā€œGreedā€. It is our fees paying for this service. Grrrrr !!
