Which Provider Makes sense to Use for Background Checks

Hello All,

I previously obtained my background checks through NNA when I was conducting numerous loan signings. I have started getting background checks from Aspen Grove and HireRight. My question is shouldn’t I be able just to list the one from Aspen Grove since it is pretty thorough instead of paying for the one from NNA? Is anyone else doing Notary and Inspection work? I just don’t want to keep paying for 2-3 different background checks each year.

thanks in advance,

If you are doing Loan Signings, the only acceptable to all is, sadly, NNA. You might ask if that one is acceptable in lieu of the other two you get.

That’s what I was afraid of, it is a bit costly.

Some contract gigs want Sterling. Used to accept NNA but then decided not to.

@marceythenotary Always best to query the hiring entity for their preferred to ensure that your Professional Signing Agent [PSA] services are approved to work with their clients.

Many of us who have been providing PSA services for a decade or two have opted for the provider mentioned in the excerpt (above) simply because those hiring entities have been convinced by that provider only their BackGround Check {BGC] is Acceptable.

I go with NNA for background checks for convenience. But you can upload a Non-NNA background check to your signing agent profile.

I was looking to ask you this question personally. I guess NNA is it then. But I’m confused as to whether I have to pay their entire fee to join. I paid for a 2 year membership last year and am now being told that didn’t include the background check. I’m really not appreciating NNA anymore and hate to do business with them. Ok, I’m going over to them and “renew” something with them but will NEVER pay for a 2 year anything with them.

Wise decision. BEFORE you mess with NNA, try to find a post by Peggy Johnson about how she managed to get the BGC for $16. Their site is…impossible. You might have better luck calling them & explaining 2 yr. membership/now need cheapest BGC. Make notes of rep’s name and cost quoted. Then call again tomorrow and repeat. Reason: you get different answers often from different reps.

If you are a member call customer service and take the time to speak to someone in person and request a background check purchase ONLY that you don’t want to buy anything else.

I paid $16. When I wanted the NSA Exam that comes in an expensive package deal, I got that for $10. As a member I recommend always making the call.
