Have any notarys had to notorize for the Amish? With no govt id’s with photos which avenue did you use to complete the notorizations? Options according to Secretary of State and the NNA is the notary has personal knowledge of individual or a credible witness. Thoughts
I’ve never notarized for the Amish, but it would make sense that they would have friends over to be a credible witness for them. Then again, their friends most likely wouldn’t have ID’s either. So how would that work?
The friends have to gave id
Yes, that thought occurred to me after I originally posted my response.
Your commissioning authority (that which issues your commission and has the power to revoke it) should be your guiding force. What does your state say to do for a notarization for someone without proper ID?
I’m in California. In California, I cannot use personal knowledge of an individual. I can, however, use 2 credible witnesses who do have government-issued photo ID.
I haven’t notarized for Amish yet. A few years ago, I did notarize Mennonites. They had proper ID. ![]()
Most have drivers that take them around.they have drivers license. Had a signing and signing company contacted the client by the driver to confirm. I never got to speak with signer and when I posed the questions about id’s seem to upset them. They contacted title company and stated that they have done 100s of signing with the Amish with no problems and proceeded to cancel job. Never did find how they did and because I didn’t have contact with signer Never had opportunity to arrange for credible witness
Guess some are more Amish than others, I did one where the fellow had a drivers license.
