Warning for State of Michigan notaries!

State of Michigan notaries do not have notary ID numbers.

When an out of state jurat or acknowledgement requires a number

I put N\A. (non applicable). I’ve never had a problem with that for the last 5 years

However, I got a call from an escrow officer saying that

wayne county required a notary ID number on a mortgage that I notarized.

WHAT IS GOING ON?!?! Has any Sate of Michigan notary

heard anything about this???

That escrow officer must be NEW or not in the state of Michigan. Tell them you can’t provide what you do not have and ask them to please look it up for themselves https://www.nationalnotary.org/file%20library/notary%20assets/0b8d193a-6d03-4dff-8b74-3d11fef4ddd0/commision.pdf

OR direct them to the Michigan SOS website: Notary services

GOOD LUCK, Jenn!

Thanks, I think you’re right, the EO said they will call me later so we’ll see what they say

Same here in Tennessee. We don’t have Id numbers and I just put N/A and have never had an issue.

I just dealt with the same thing.I remembered seeing your post before. I just had.a refi from a month ago (through a signing service) come back telling me that I had caused a delay, because I did not put my commission ID on my documents, that I put NA, and they wanted my commission number, claiming that the documents were “rejected by Wayne County”. I searched online to see if, all of a sudden, Michigan was requiring us to have commission IDS for use on documents (since we don’t have a commission ID). I did also call “the Great Seal” to verify, so that I could prove that, then stated to them that Michigan still does not give commission IDs to notaries. Sent them all the screenshots of everything I found online stating such And now crickets. So we’ll see.

wow. That is crazy because nobody at Wayne County should be confused about this. Maybe there’s a new employee at the county LOL
