Paying to join a service

I got a letter from Loan Signing Service wanting me to join. They wanted me to pay $50 to join. I was told never pay to join a service, does that sound correct. I did not pay

@leonwooden It’s a very common post on the Notary Cafe forum that one NEVER should pay a fee to “join a service.”

So, you’re correct regarding your memory/perspective.

I have no direct experience in this regard . . . however, most who have paid a fee to “join a service” subsequently share via the Notary Cafe forum the following:

  • They NEVER received any Signing Orders [SOs]
  • Requested a REFUND, but NEVER received it
  • NEVER saw their name/business listed in any database with that business entity
  • NEVER received any calls/potential SOs from that business entity
  • Etc.

.

FYI: It’s completely appropriate to pay a nominal fee to be “listed” in a well-known & reputable Directory or to pay Marketing expenses via Google, etc.

cNas5,

I agree. This week, four people contacted me via Notary Cafe. In insurance, leads cost $15-$50 each. Needless to say, these calls covered my membership fee.

Paying to join a ‘signing’ service is a scam. It’s true you never receive any assignments there just taking your money.
