Platforms blocking for a bad review

So I was just blocklisted from a popular signing order platform because Unlimited Ink the signing service that has pages and pages of redundant instructions on EVERY single communication reported that I refused to make corrections after a signing, however the corrections I refused were unlawful. They asked me to delete redaction marks that appeared on a document that I didn’t draft to have them and told me to instruct signers to add dates where there were no date fields. (It sorta sounds like whomever sent it should correct and then give to me) I had called the NNA to get advice and they confirmed the unlawful and inappropriateness of changing documents or advising signers to do that after a signing especially in the day after but at least the platform let me down easy and said unfortunately for me in situations like this I am the only one that loses out. Suspended indefinitely? SMH

Redaction marks? You didn’t print from an Apple device did you?

I have an Apple phone but I printed from my laptop which is windows. Are we only supposed to print from android or something?

Printing from your iPhone can cause black lines to appear in a document. It looks like a redaction but it’s a printing error. So some SS will mention that in instructions.

I am not saying that’s what happened but I know it can happen. I only print from a download on my laptop direct from a website. Because I have iPhone also.

If the black lines were a result of a printing error you are required to fix that. But it only happens if you send print instruction from your phone. So I don’t know what happened in your case.

So sorry this happened to you. But redactions/edits should not be appearing on any of the loan documents you print out from your hiring company. If you look at the document online and it looks just fine, but then it prints out with all weird with redactions/edits… oooo that is bad :triangular_flag_on_post: and means there is an issue with how you downloaded/printed the loan documents.

Download the PDF loan docs they send you, locate the file in your downloads folder, right-click on the file name and select “open with” and choose ADOBE ACROBAT READER. (First make sure you have the latest version of the free reader.) Make it a habit to only print loan documents using Adobe Acrobat Reader. (If you view the document and try to print using Google Chrome, the printing can also be a complete mess.)

When you download a PDF, if the documents looks correct on your computer screen but then prints with redaction marks, then the issue is definitely on your end and would be your fault. Sorry, I know this isn’t what you want to hear. Try to consider it a live and learn situation so you won’t make the same mistake ever again. The good news is there are plenty of other signing services out there who will still give you assignments.

Do your best to remain friendly and professional even if you are mad/frustrated. After some time passes, consider reaching out to their vendor manager again and inquire about getting back onboard the platform. Explain so that they understand that YOU UNDERSTAND exactly what happened, what went wrong, and how you will prevent it from ever happening again. They may put you back on the panel. If it was me, I would certainly give you another chance.

Good luck to you, Kimberly. Please let us know if they do let you back on. I hope they do!

Whenever you receive a notice from the SS/TC resist the temptation to click on the response button right away. Take a beat, review the returned documents and research what may have gone wrong on your end before you offer up an explanation or response. More often than not you will be able to see what could have happened so that the document either didn’t print or scan correctly. If that is the case, then it is a problem that occurred on your end. If, however, the documents came over to you with redactions, streaks or odd characters where text is supposed to be (which does happen on occasion) then you have a defensible argument to make. I agree that SS are overburdening us with excessive instructions, that should not be a driver in how you respond to them about any objections. Once you accept the assignment, you accept everything that comes with it, even though you may not agree. It’s the nature of the business, unfortunately.

Isn’t being a LSA great? One perceived mistake and you get suspended indefinitely!

That’s excellent advice. At my last job I learned to never respond to email immediately. You just have to take a beat. Or ten.

I can only think of one way a document could have a redaction mark on it BEFORE I met with a signer. It could be the second part of a split signing, that is, two people have to sign, but they are not in the same area. So the package gets sent to the first signer. In the process of signing the package the first signer strikes something out with a pen and initials it. Then the package arrives at the second signer. The second signer asks whoever that signer considers appropriate about the strikeout, such as their attorney, and decides to sign. Probably the title company gets consulted too.

As for the signer adding dates where there is no date field, there is usually nothing illegal about that. If it’s OK with the title company and the signer, there’s no problem. The only time I would have a problem would be in a split signing where another signer already signed, and the document notarized, a few days ago.

I would never call NNA for advice about properly performing notarizations.

I agree with the points you make. It’s never good to react immediately to a negative communication from a hiring party. Relax, read it over again until you completely understand what they’re asking you to do. Think of the best way for you to solve the problem. Then, if you still have an issue with what they’re saying, respond in a calm and communicative way. The problem, whatever it is, has to be corrected, so no need to make it harder on yourself than necessary.

Did you report them to whoever they need to be reported to?

Cuz it’s only right, you block me…I’M REPORTING YOUR ILLEGAL BEHINDS!!

Blocked from Unlimited Ink (no big loss) or blocked from the entire Signing Order platform? That would not make a lot of sense.

Its been a little over 2 months since I posted this and its given me some time to reflect. I’ve accepted that as unfair as it seems bad reviews can really damage reputations. And the platform is bound to their clients so did they really have a choice? I know that I could have retaliated or caused a big stink but what good would that do? Like the platform said, I would be the only one losing out.

By now most of the dust has settled and I was compensated for that job. I’ve since used other platforms and hopefully stayed on everyone’s good side. It wasn’t the end of the world and I lived to sign another day. The end.

Well now it’s not too late to contact them and get back on the list if you want. I hear frequently from them that it’s possible. They need you too. Just a thought.
