Possible Notary Scammer

I was contacted a few days ago by a Notary who found me here and last minute (30 minutes prior to the appointment) contacted me to cover a mobile service for them. I asked them for the client phone number luckily. I was told my payment would be zelled upon completion.I completed the Notary and the client even offered to pay me directly, I said no. Telling them to pay the “company” they will pay me. I texted them to let them know the appointment was completed and gave my info for zelle. Since then I have not have not been paid. They said ok. Its been 2 days no payment. I contacted the “company” via text and call no. By the way I found out they used a Google number.

I called client and asked for the number they contacted. He was very sweet and gave me the name, and email / website and phone number of the person “ company “ they booked the appointment with. The phone number does not they booked with me and the name does not match the initial they used. I did text again yesterday no answer at first the I text back with his name and he texted in 30 seconds saying g he will send the zelle.

Its the next day still no payment and I am about to publish the name and website of the number throughout the Notary networks as a scammed in 24 hours and my personal Google reviews have 35 million views. I am trying to be fair but this wrong taking advantage of someone else’s labor and not compensate them.

What do you advise?

My humble advice. Learn from your mistake, lick your wound and move on. If your collection efforts don’t yield results, the additional time you spend barking about this incident isn’t worth it, in my view and experience. I know it hurts, but you’re better off developing your business opportunities and practices than trying to soothe yourself by making an issue out of this thing.

I’ve been there and I know.

Post as much info as you have and stop the guy. If he’s really a notary, I’d report him to the state he’s commissioned in, too. This is so wrong on so many levels…

I agree with the advice to move on. As an LSA we aren’t allowed to subcontract without permission but I bet that person did it anyway.

My advice is when someone calls oh I found you on the internet tell them your contract will be underway when they email you terms of service and business portal details.

The only work I have done that was found you on Notary Cafe was GNW. Direct with the signer. Paid when I got there.

Good luck. I would probably look for that person on LinkedIn and try some public shaming. Scams like that will cost them more than you if it’s publicized.

I want to however this is another Notary like us doing this to others. He is advertising everywhere. Its the principal. Now I am less inclined to help other notaries when they re in a jam. The answer will be NO.

This is a not a Loan signing situation this a simple mobile notary situation. I am aware of LSA rules. I am a Real Estate Paralegal and 23 years of Title Closing, research and clearance experience. I have helped a few notaries in my area when overwhelmed but this guy seems to be a scammed. Other notaries need to be warned as well as clients when getting involved with this guy.

Ahhh, I misunderstood. . .it’s another NOTARY, not a signing service. Apologies for my oversight. Go get ‘em, girl! I certainly would.
