I just accepted an Signing and when I made the call to Confirm; the Signer said she has COVID. I am requesting an additional fee on top of the signing fee for the risk involved. What is the expected amount would you accept?

During 2020 COVID epidemic I performed signings but never with anyone that actually had COVID. Personal choice. I performed a lot of signings for Silverdale WA Hospital but never for anyone with COVID. Masks and sanitizer always available even for those with other type of virus especially when I see boogers running down face.
My $.02 FWIW - there’s no fee in the world that would have me sitting down with anyone with active Covid. The new strains out there are worse than the first wave and I have no desire to get it again.
I think you’re the only one who can put a price on that risk - based on your own comfort level, your health, and have you received the vaccine?
Personally I’d have dropped the order. Extra money won’t help if I contract COVID and am out for five days like the only time I ever had it.
@andrea.islandnotary I must respectfully state that the question you’ve posed is highly subjective and quite challenging to answer definitively. It seems you are, in effect, asking us to assign a monetary value to our well-being and the health of our loved ones. From my perspective, there simply isn’t a sum of money that would ever outweigh the importance of protecting my family’s health and my own. I would never compromise on that principle. If I know beforehand that a signer(s) are experiencing some type of contagious illnesses, that is grounds for me to reject that assignment. It’s hard to determine a value for establishing what fee to charge to compensate the risk vs rewards outcome for exposing ourselves to any type of illness.
I wouldn’t ask for more money. I would request the signers to mask up, I would mask up and leave the pens or if I was that uncomfortable about it I would just let the signing company know you are no longer available because the signers have covid. They wouldn’t want you to do the signing if you reported you had COVID.
This has happened to me and that is how I handled it and I did not get sick as a result. I’m also vaccinated and use hand sanitizer in my car after signings. To specifically answer your question, I don’t think you should request additional money for the situation, just decide whether or not you want to do it or take precautions if you do. There is always a risk of getting sick everytime you go anywhere in public or to someones house.
