Signing docs

New to being a notary, Can a person notarize a document if the client can’t write their name and put an X as signature

Need to know where you’re located to answer adequately. Or consult your notary handbook

I’m sorry I am located in Greenville S.C.

BTW - if it’s a real estate closing, you need an attorney on the line or present

Thanks for your help I forgot about my handbook. It’s a document for consent to handle someone affairs while they are in the hospital

So, basically a Power of Attorney. Your handbook is vague as to whether you need witnesses for those (here in FL we do…apparently you don’t). Just check on witness requirements in your state … POAs may require two witnesses …they do here. Signer should provide witnesses. If signer is already in hospital, hospital personnel may not be allowed to witness…the can’t here.

Good luck

Than you so much for the info
