Trying not to get nervous but I have a part 2 of a split signing tomorrow where I’m waiting on documents. if the notary doesn’t drop on time it will get dicey fast. FedEx services have been cut so severely in Eastern Washington that I’m nervous. I’ve asked Title a couple of times and made them a little upset but the signing is two hours away and I don’t want it to go late and become a night drive.
I know it’s too late to pull out of agreeing to do this. But it’s mighty nerve wracking.
Peggy…you really need to learn to take care of yourself FIRST. Can YOU track the package’s whereabouts? If so, do so. Trust me on this next one: Do NOT ever, (never, don’t even think about it) grab the 1st notary’s pkg and take off for your signing location.
Go thru the whole package very carefully. Why? Look at the Certs the 1st notary did. Do you have to print another for your signer (often the case) Did 1st do anything that might cause a re-sign–if so, check w/Title. I haven’t done more’n maybe 2 dozen ‘2nd notary on pkg’ jobs…but 3/4 have had pretty bad & unique issues. Could have strangled the ‘1st N’ who put a big X thru my 2nd signer’s Cert. kindly provided by Title on same page as 1st signer/N Cert, forcing me to print something like 16 loose Certs. OR the whole signing had to be re-scheduled because the 1stN placed her stamp smack-dab on top of her signature. OR the package I received in a frosty plastic envelope that contained the ripped envelope (& missing pages) because the 1st tried to jam a large ltr/legal doc pkg. into a cardboard ltr.size envelope. That was a re-schedule, too.
Oh I know to check everything. I gave title a deadline for receiving the documents to ensure I’m on time. I’ve been the first notary several times and the 2nd notary only once. Because honestly, they aren’t my favorite assignments. Hindsight was - oh durn I shouldn’t have accepted this but I can’t back out at this point.
Heya, so does Notary #1 provide Notary #2 with a copy for the 2nd signer? I just realized no one said anything about that. Wondered if there was an SOP for that I didn’t know about.
Heck, no. That’s another unique issue I’ve seen–N#1 thought she was doing me/N#2 a solid by printing her state’s Cert. for her signer–while leaving actual Title-provided Cert. (for her state) for my use. As her state Cert. is not my state Cert, I still had to print/use my state Cert.–which meant original title-suppled-for-her-state-Cert. was left blank AND both hers & mine were loose, additional Certs. Split-signs can be handled two ways; Original pkg. for signature-only sent by 1stN to 2nd N. OR they just hire 2 notaries, each prints & completes signing separately. Hope all this made sense.
FedEx tracking now says I will receive before 8pm so as I worried they don’t know when they will deliver. And I have told title I will not be doing a night time signing.
FedEx and UPS services are being cut in a lot of rural areas. When I take any assignment these days, send message that cutoff for FedEx and UPS in my neck of the woods is 4pm. If appointment time is set too close to cutoff, ask if they want to change appointment. If they don’t want to change, onward and forward ~ their call ~ put information in form of text, email, or log into notes on website notification in writing. Not many active notaries in Bonney Lake WA any more and especially not Fidelity approved.
1:15pm for FedEx is extremely early. In your situation would be logical for Title, etc. to switch to UPS ~ most companies have FedEX and UPS service. Sorry trying to be logical when it does not always exist. Good luck !!
Now FedEx says not until Monday. If I had know the location of the other signer I’d have quoted one fee to go to both locations. Because it went from the 1st location through Memphis and back to WA State and the locations are about 2 hours from each other. I have somewhere else to be Monday so - I dunno. This is bad. Looking at the drop time Thursday I don’t think this actually shipped Thursday.
In our minds, yes. But have heard of, and had, many instructions that say all dates must match, even if it’s a split signing. Many SS and TCs will instruct that all signers must date on XX date and notary cert must match (posted here and elsewhere many times). Notaries in the past have been through this time and time again. And now FedEx is saying delivery on Monday? If you end up with this signing after all is said and done, beware of this possible instruction.
