Usually the complaints on here are directed at SSs or TCs but this one is aimed at another Notary.
I’m the second Notary on a Split-Signing between CA and CO and I’m seriously hoping that all of this is a result of an honest mistake not laziness/apathy on the first Notary’s part.
TL,DR: First Notary is not only late dropping docs for Split-Signing, but uses wrong shipping label forcing me to reschedule with Signer 4 days in a row and miss out on 2 other assignments totaling ~$400 of business.
I took (what was supposed to be) a quick assignment for the second part of a signing scheduled for last Thursday(03/10/2022). The first part was in CA and my part in here in CO. The docs were supposed to be delivered to me earlier that day in time for an afternoon appointment. That didn’t happen.
The SS messages me ~3 hours before the appointment to let me know that they need to reschedule because the docs have not been shipped and I need to reschedule for the next day with the Signer. No biggie. It’s been slow so I call and reschedule for Friday. That evening, the SS sends me the tracking number and I pull up FedEx Tracking only to find that the destination is for CA, not CO! The SS verified that the First Notary used the wrong label and sent the docs back to the TC instead of me and that the TC would be shipping them to me ASAP. Normally, this would have put them on my doorstep on Saturday morning and I could have had them back in the mail for a Monday delivery to TC so I called the Signer again to reschedule for Saturday. but the weather didn’t co-operate and FedEx had delivery issues. New delivery date: Possibly Sunday or Monday.
I called the Signer again and scheduled 2 new possible times for Sunday and today(Monday).
All of this might just have been a frustrating inconvenience except that the times that she had available for the last few days were the same times that I received offers for 2 other assignments and had to reject. Total for those 2 offers? $415.
Please, please, please! If you are the first notary on a Split, be aware and cognizant! I try to be and will often call the second Notary to give them a “heads-up” about the docs and any surprises. It’s very frustrating to be in this position.
As I was writing this last paragraph, the docs finally showed up so now I am going to call the Signer…again…and ask if she has time before she has to head for the airport!
Thank you for listening. Rant over.
