Turbotax 2025 Home and Business

I’ve always used Turbotax Home and Business for filing my taxes. Now I’ve gotta gripe! :face_with_steam_from_nose:

It was bad enough that recently, within the past couple of years, I could only get the digital download and not the actual program to install. While shopping for best price this year, all I see says “Requires Windows 11 or macOS Sonoma 14 or later”. I have an older Lenovo ThinkPad that still works great. It has W10. Does anyone know a workaround to that W11?

TIA!

I wonder if the issue is that Microsoft no longer provides security updates for Windows 10, so the software companies will no longer allow that OS to be used for their programs? I have a Microsoft Surface that still works great, but because it uses Window 10 and is no longer receiving security updates I just purchased a laptop in case I need one.

Sharing information that my tech son shared with me. 2025 purchased new pc this year with new software. My son worked for Microsoft, Amazon, and now tech company that services M, A, and Boeing. Since companies use all types of computers he has new Lenovo, Apple, Dell, HP and all latest software including companies customized software. Companies resisting purchasing new computers and software and have difficulties during digital meetings, presentations, etc. because 2025 & 2026 tech upgrades systems have difficulties communicating. Throw AI into mix and may totally freeze the whole mess. Tech world mess.:upside_down_face:

Win 10 lacks up to date security features. Both Win 10 and 11 are no longer supported by MS. There are no “work arounds” that will keep your PC secure. You may be able to upgrade to Win 11 if your PC is still “young enough”. If not it’s time for an upgrade.

Keep in mind that IRS/US Treasury is requiring updated security features for financial services firms. I just spent a Kings Ransome updating my comuters and network.

@RiverpointeTax – “Both Win 10 and 11 are no longer supported by MS.” I’m fully aware about W10 no longer being supported by MS, but W11 also? If W11 is no longer supported by MS, what am I supposed to use? I’ve decided I’ll have to bite the bullet and purchase a new computer now and I want to stay with Windows. That’s all I’ve ever used.

@yolicue You can Google “know” (confirm) this via the imbedded AI system: =>>> MS WIN10 isn’t supported . . .

.

but MS WIN 11 CONTINUES to be supported <<<= Albeit, needs to be a NEWER version (reference specifics below).

QUERY: Does microsoft still support windows 10

No, Microsoft officially ended mainstream support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025, meaning no more free security updates, features, or technical help, though devices still function but become vulnerable; users should upgrade to Windows 11, purchase a new PC, or enroll in the paid Extended Security Updates (ESU) program for limited security patches through October 2028.”

QUERY: Does microsoft still support windows 11

“Yes, Windows 11 is still actively supported by Microsoft as its current operating system, but support is version-specific; newer versions like 24H2 and 25H2 are supported, while older ones (like 23H2) are ending support in late 2025, so you need to be on a recent version to receive updates. Microsoft encourages upgrading from older versions to stay secure, with support for Windows 10 ending in late 2025, making Windows 11 the recommended platform.”

Yolicue, my error, Win 11 is still supported. MS is working on Windows 12 that was originally scheduled for release in late 2025 or 2026. Since Windows is also updating Windows Server 2025, the new release date for windows 12 is pushed out to 2027. (PCMAG) Windows 12 will come with AI already built-in. Purchasing a new PC will get windows 11.

Yes, these upgrades can be very costly.

You might be able to upgrade to W11 with the TPM check bypass (lots of folks do it on older ThinkPads), but if that sounds like a headache, the online TurboTax works fine on W10 — that’s what I ended up doing.
