⚠️ warning to all notaries & signing agents

Scammers are contacting notaries asking them to join them in fake Zoom consultations related to “signing appointments,” “verification,” or “training.”

These links may compromise your:
• Email accounts
• Passwords
• Banking information
• Device security
• Clients’ personal information

Fortunately, I recognized the scam and did not fall victim to it.

Please be careful:
• Do not click unknown links
• Verify appointments directly with the hiring company
• Do not download unknown software or files
• Be cautious of urgent or suspicious requests

If something feels off, stop and verify before proceeding.

If you do a Zoom meeting make sure you are the one initiating it, not them. You send the link.

Please share this warning with other notaries.

So I just put a post about mine too. I am wondring what the scam is. Is it the link because they aked like they didn’t want to email me. it was a text message.

FYI: To all Notary Cafe members, this has been previously reported.

Once someone tells them it’s OK to go ahead and do the Zoom conference. They will send you a link and the link contains from malware. It basically latches on to your operating system and transmit information to them. It could be personal information bank information or even access to the files that you have saved on your computer.

Yes, I received 2 emails and they were almost identical asking for a Zoom meeting.

The recent NNA article regarding the zoom meeting scam targeting notaries indicated that this is a hackers way of obtaining your biometric signature so they can fake notaries and get fake notary stamps. So that’s why you should never zoom with anyone you have had to business introduction to according to that article.

I was just involved in one of these. First a woman emailed me for information, which I cannot provide as a notary. Then she wanted a zoom meeting. Nope. Then her husband started emailing me. Again, I stated that I provide notarization services only, asking that when they have their documents in order, they could contact me for their services. He insisted. I resisted. I sent an email telling them I would not audition for a job I already have. I wished them well. Crickets.

Then how does a remote online notarization happen?

I received that email too. I find they’re easy to spot. This one said they had tax documents to notarize. The request is usually very vague and their English is poor.

Hi. Mine was wanting a zoom meeting to look over tax docs that needed notarization.
