Here in NY Notaries do these periodically and are paid more for them. I have done one - was blindsided not knowing what I was walking into and was embarrassed and uncomfortable, as all of the things you described is what was expected of me. We are often required to utilize the scanners at the lawyer’s office to scanback the executed documents, and in NY we are also required to pick up the checks from time to time to bring to the closing.
I’ve never accepted another because I’m not knowledgeable enough and not sure who I would actually learn to do them from - same issue you are having. I like to know exactly what I’m doing walking into a situation such as a purchase closing.
