The answer to this question may be specific to the notarial guidelines of your state. But, has anyone ever been asked and agreed to provide someone with a copy of their notary commission?
I have been asked to provide it to a foreign lender from a loan packet that I did for a friend last month.
Usually this is requested when first engaging with a Title Company or Signing Service. If you’re a Texas Notary then your commission is a matter of public record. The foreign lender my need evidence you’re a commissioned notary in your state.
Thank you, and I agree that they may need evidence that my commission is current. I’m concerned about sending out a copy of my commission to an unknown person/lender.
Do you think this is valid?
You can see if your state will allow you to provide a phone number or email address to the foreign lender. If you have a NNA profile, perhaps you can send them the link to that instead.
I do understand your concerns. I’m not sure why they are requesting this information after the fact.
In my state it’s a felony to possess a notary stamp without a valid notary commission. The clerks at the local correctional facility know that and request you to present it before they will allow you inside.
