DEMANDS FROM Professional Notary Services, Inc

I received the following email from this Company today:

I hope you’re doing well. To better serve our clients and maintain consistent quality across all assignments, we’re updating our vendor requirements: we will now require the National Notary Association (NNA) Loan Signing Certification for all loan signing work.

What this means for you

  • If you’re already NNA-certified: please reply with a link to your SigningAgent.com showing your certification.

  • If you’re not yet certified: no worries—this is a common credential and many notaries complete it quickly. Until you obtain the certification, we’ll temporarily remove your profile from our active database for loan signing assignments. As soon as you’re certified, send us the link and we’ll reinstate you right away.

We truly value our relationship with you. This change isn’t punitive—it’s about ensuring consistent standards and opening more opportunities with our clients. If you have questions or need guidance on the process, just hit reply and we’ll help.

Thank you for your professionalism and for being part of our network.

OK - here is my concern:

Why with almost 40 years of conducting real estate transactions, etc., do I have to pay $199 to the NNA to become a LOAN SIGNING AGENT when I am “grandfathered” in. As you will see from the email, if I do not COMPLY with their request I will be removed their database.
My State law reads: No Extra Legal Qualifications: To become a notary signing agent in Ohio, individuals do not need additional legal qualifications beyond being a commissioned notary public

Am I missing something here or is this email all over the NNA getting more money and it is fair to say that, per the mail, a person is being coerced/forced into contributing to a monopoly?

“No extra legal qualifications” - NNA certification is not a legal qualification - as you know, most states doesn’t even recognize the position at all.

But I know how you feel - I started doing this in 2006 after a 25 year career as a real estate closing paralegal - I started back when we had to type the docs ourselves - no typos..ugh. Having to get certified by another entity didn’t sit well with me but I did it so I could get going down here (we moved from CT)

Does this company give you enough business to make it worthwhile for you? Only you can decide - I’ve been out of signings for some years now and when I read what you folks have to go through and the hoops to jump, I’m kind of glad I’m not doing them any more.

Yup. That would just be someone that I wouldn’t work for again. I may go against popular opinion here but the NNA isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. I’m in PA so we are fortunate enough to have our own association that’s been around many years. I have seen discrepancies in what the NNA says on their so called signing agent certification exam and what PA law actually states. I took their silly exam the first two years and refuse to do it again. I still get the same amount of work without and not 1 single direct hire in PA has ever asked me for any extras. But if they are a big money maker for you, then so be it.
