PROBLEM: Uncollectible Fees
Be careful what you wish for. Could easily turn into more oversight, licensing requirements, annual educational requirements…and whatever else they can think of. Better to check 'em out and turn 'em down if you don’t like what you see (or don’t see)…there are so many underfunded newb SS out there now… Until the oversupply of notaries and undersupply of jobs gets better, nothing’s going to change. And, the newbs have to start acting like a business owner & say no when confronted with weasels.
At this point, I’m VERY hesitant to take any job from a company that I haven’t done business with before and that I know I’ll get paid. From my experience, it’s a crap shoot whether you will get paid or not from a new company. I would only take such jobs in desperation (when business is not just slow but really slow). Even then, I’ll give them just one chance. They have to pay for the first job before I’ll take a second one from them.
In 6 years - maybe a thousand contracts - stiffed one time. This isn’t a rampant problem for myself.
