It always amazes me that some companies say scans must be done within an hour or two after signing and the package MUST make today’s shipping. Other companies say scans must be done within 24 hours and package must be shipped by next day.
I find it doesn’t matter what the demand is for shipping, if you communicate what your local area shipping is and get your scan in, it’s never been an issue for me.
Upon acceptance I notify a hiring company when they’ll get scans and when they receive the documents. The one time I got pushback I called and said, there is no one who can get you shipping the same day. Services to this area are cut - it’s not going to happen. I’ll do the assignment, or you can try to re-assign last minute. Just let me know.
They make a couple of calls and then go Okay.
Yes, you drop following day if the appointment is set for a Friday and it’s a late afternoon appointment. UPS and FEDEX, last pickup is usually 7 pm local time. The package will arrive on Monday.
Oh, I know. It’s all bark and no bite but it’s really irritating when they do that. I know more what’s possible and what isn’t in my area than they do from across the country.
If you drop documents on Saturday at UPS or FedEx before 12 noon, they will get there on Monday as if you were to shipped it on Friday. But always asked if they had their pick up yet. If they had, go to a different location.
In my town I can ship FRI. or Sat. with the same results…arrives MONDAY either way. Just something for them to complain about?
Yeah, it felt like it. Lol.
Maybe in a city last pick up is 7pm. Not in rural Eastern Washington though. The important thing is to communicate what your shipping cut off times are.
When in doubt, ship it out. I am well-versed with the shipping cutoff times in my area for FedEx and UPS and weekends are earlier. If the signing order requests a scan and a drop, I will ask them which is preferred because sometimes it is not possible to accommodate both requests. Either way, communication is key. I have been the recipiend of an angry Title Officer who was expecting same day shipment only to have to tell everyone at the bank and real estate office that they will have to wait an additional day. Weather happens! Runaway dogs happen, broken teeth? I’ve had a few. My hard-earned lesson, always communicate delays. As to shipping, I will only retain the package if they will be sitting around for Monday pickup and I don’t like to think of them lying around in an unmanned drop off over the weekend. It means Monday morning strain, but the faster they are shipped the less heat will be on your bottom.
Personally, I do everything I can to drop the package on the same day. This is just the way I run my business. Of course, if the signing appointment is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. or later, I do not guarantee a same-day drop at the courier service. I hope this helps!
Hello Noami,
When I get an assignment I always google the fedex office close to where I have to do my signing and the hours of operation. If you feel you’re not going to make it to the fedex office before they close, send a quick email letting them know you’re not going to make it.
Ive had a number of Saturday drops when by the time I finished and and scanned, the carrier was closed. I know the hours of all close by. Just check the pick up for all of the close locations. Some dont pick up Saturday and some have mid morning pick ups. If you dont have a Saturday pick up, be sure to notify your SS.
That’s what I love about Friday signings. You don’t have to rush to try to make final pickup. Saturday pickup is the same as Friday pickup in terms of when the package will arrive.
Until you’re like me and don’t have a Saturday FedEx.
There is no local drop, Friday when I advised there wouldn’t be a Friday ship and explained a Saturday ship added at least 80 miles, I was given another fifty bucks to take to FedEx. That was cool.
