MN signing agent

Had a question for in one In MN
Do you feel the 8hour course
Taught you everything thing you needed to get started?
I’ve been looking at books to purchase and for websites to learn more to prepare myself, not really for the test but more to be efficient in my job as a signing agent

Did you already see this one by Jeanine Johnson? https://minnesotanotarytraining.com?

And I also have some some free NSA 101 videos on YouTube if it helps you. NSA 101 is more geared towards the presentation of loan documents https://youtube.com/c/NSA101
I am in Washington but presenting documents has universal appeal. YouTube is a gold mine.

I got NNA certified, but what was missing for me when I first got started in this was the actual handling of loan documents. I was like great, I am NNA certified. But what is the reality? What do I actually say and do when I meet with these borrowers? Even though I was technically “certified”, I felt wildly unprepared. And my first few signings were unnecessarily stressful. So I created NSA 101.

Wish you good luck!

No, I did not feel the class prepared me much. The class mostly teaches about title - and it’s an all “reading” class, no videos. It is awful and they say it takes 8 hours - took me 2 weeks to throughly go over the materials. You also have to test by proctor at the end of the course, so make sure you know your materials! Heads up, you have to take the class for MN to become a closing agent. MN requires this class for all notaries that want to do loan closings. If you do not have the special licensing you could face up to $10,000 per signing in fines - take the class and be safe! One positive is Jeanne Johnson is a gem and easy to get in contact with if you have questions  Good luck!

Which is why it focuses so much on title - loan closings are strongly connected to title matters. In all honesty, I think EVERY person wanting to do loan closings/signings should have to go through a course about title for their respective states. There are far too many little nuances about real estate title law that should be known by the notary taking on this type of work - and many don’t know.

Best of luck to you. If you don’t feel you’re prepared enough to do signings I’d recommend Notary2Pro training - that coupled with your MN closer training you should be good to go.

I agee 100%… very important to learn about title. But, I also think when you are spending $375 (plus the cost of license) on a class it should include more. Imagine getting your nursing license and you were only taught how to use a needle. When you take a mandated class, you should feel somewhat prepared to do your job, I felt lost and scared after the class - it did not prep me for the reality of the job. Just my opinion. A state mandated class shouldn’t render you spending more on classes to do your job. It should help you feel prepared for what’s to come.

I would also encourage her to take an additional class. I did, and I’m glad I did. This is your business and if you really want to do it - do it right.

One thing that helped me a lot was going through my own refi paper work - best way to learn is to study your own docs!!
