Yes I always counteroffer. In TX most signings that come through $40, they used to pay $100. Now lucky if they pay $80-90.
Because people are accepting $80 or $90 to undercut those countering $100. Which they learn here.
Always, but most of the time they do not accept my counter offers. New Notaries usually take low ball offers.
@vcmobilenotary Why would the new notaries take an action that would cause them to LOSE MONEY?
- Instructors of the deceptively misleading marketing for 6-figure Training/Certification programs TELL THEM TO DO THAT to “gain experience.”
===>>> Interestingly, they aren’t transparent about the FACT that they OWN Signing Services [SSs] that will FINANCIALLY directly BENEFIT as a result of those new notaries accepting the abysmally low-ball Fees . . .
.
The challenge (in my opinion) is that many of those new to this business sector haven’t made the shift (yet) in their paradigm from EMPLOYEE to Entrepreneur/BUSINESS OWNER.
Once they Follow this Guideline for Creating an Individualized Schedule of Fees for their own expenses, the numbers TELL the WHOLE Story about how much MONEY they’re LOSING with each Signing Order [SO] they Accept at the Low-Ball Fees.
.
They’re eager for experience and they don’t get counter offers accepted, so they get desperate and accept the low ball orders for fear they’ll get no orders. Everyone starts out in that boat. Maybe experienced notaries forgot what that was like.
@lydia_notarysa You’re a successful Business Owner who understands the cost of providing your Professional Services!
Congratulations!
.
I negoitiate everybody..
We are entitled to a profit too
I never accepted a lo ball offer ..i was taught how to calculate a fee and been doing it for along time
.my direct business and i negotiated fees for the packages i do as well
Good luck
I don’t accept low ball either. But I understand why sometimes newer notaries take the loss.
I negotiate everybody. They will have you work for minimum wage if he couold get away with it. You know your worth. Don’t accept LOW BALL offers. It’s better to lose a deal than work for less than your hourly rate.
Yes always. They have become a real bottom feeder company and it shows. If a $100 is a lot for an agent to complete a closing then your part of the problem. I recently asked for $100 which is a good price in my opinion in 2025 because I used to get more and my expenses only go up. I didn’t get but then a different company offered me a job then for more and best part is they appreciate me. Mortgage connect doesn’t even treat the notaries as people anymore. It’s really become quite pathetic. Then they even add insult to injury by giving notaries bad grades they don’t even deserve. Begging for print and trip fees of no signs and even belittling you as to how long are you there and how many miles did you drive and our trip and print is now $25 lol. Basically at this point if you can’t meet my fee, it’s the trash taking itself out. It simply means you don’t deserve me and something better is coming my way. Thanks for making my decision easy. I will not be part of a race to the bottom they’re gonna pay less each and every year and the fact that they even have the goal to offer $40 for a closing is just unreal.
@tonyinwi Hear! Hear!
As I often express, “Know Your Worth!”
.
Simply LOVE the manner in which you’ve described knowing your worth.
Trip and print fee is typically 50% of the contracted fee. So yeah, now that many of Mortgage Connect’s fees are in the $50 range, half of that would be $25. Makes perfect sense, no? <yikes!>
I honestly hope no one is doing anything for fifty bucks. I’d lose way too much money. But someone in my region is doing them cheaper and cheaper because my counters that are usually accepted immediately aren’t being accepted. Double yikes.
Yes, as it is with most SS it comes down to if they can get someone to accept a lower fee, they will, but I’ve had some success negotiating a reasonable fee increase before accepting.
That’s the best we can do - good job. I find I have to hold the line. Even if I miss work.
@sean.walsh Thank You
for sharing your direct experience!
In my direct experience, I’ve been able to negotiate a reasonable Fee for the Professional Services required on the Signing Order proffered by Signing Services [SSs].
There continue to be a few wherein negotiation for a reasonable Fee didn’t transpire.
As @chandie.kent noted on another thread, don’t agree to Low-Ball Fees and essentially pay the SS to complete the closing.
