Notaries Express - Steve Stosen - AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAGUE!

If I could give them a zero star rating I would. I would be happy to change this review if Steve would honor his commitment and actually pay a promised fee, but I can tell that it never will happen, so my recourse is to warn other notaries about this company.

In April of 2020 I was hired by Notaries Express to do a refinance in a town with a 48-mile round-trip. The seller was confused by the property tax payment and ended up sending me home. I spoke with Steve and was told I would receive a trip and print fee.

A year and MANY requests later I still have not received this promised fee. Every time I asked Steve about it, he would tell me that he had put in for it to be paid, but the check never was cut. Interesting, since it’s his WIFE who cuts the checks.

I would avoid doing business with this company; they will only pay IF the borrower closes the loan. Even if they tell you that you are getting a print and/or trip fee, they are not being truthful.

I have done a LOT of work for them, almost $10,000, but really, if they are going to be constantly low-balling and being cheap like this, forget it. They were great initially, keeping me very busy, but never for more than $85. When I started to ask for more, Steve very pointedly told me that I would no longer be receiving work from the company because he doesn’t have the margins to pay more. Maybe he should not be in the business then?

Sorry this turned out that way. Thank you for sharing your experience in detail, Barbara.

A quick search on Steve Stosen found similar negative experiences from other people in various forums. Thanks for the heads up.

I had a similar experience and will no longer due business with them.

Agreed. I still have not been paid from Notaries Express for an invoice that is now 115 days old. I finally received payment for a previous signing, and that took 95 days. Although the schedulers are fantastic to work with and very friendly, they can not issue checks.

WOW! I’m noticing disrespect from a few agencies.
I had 2 delayed payments from them, almost 90 days, I called, the lady apologized and got my checks right out. I have picked a few signings again with them lately, but this gives me caution.

My further concern is they send out blast, I accept and never get confirmed. Then late afternoon/evening I get a call. I shared my concerns and it was somewhat dismissed by an over talking (I won’t give the name). So, I’m going to watch them for a while.

I received a call and the caller was very courteous on a Sat. afternoon, so I agreed to do a closing late the following week. then a couple more popped up to be done the same or next day, but you cannot get docs. I got tired quickly and asked them to remove me from all contact. It is very stressful to not be able to meet your commitment when you cannot get the required docs.
Best wishes to all?

Are you referring to Express Notary?

I’m wondering, also…Is Notaries Express the same as Express Notary?

They are not the same. One is “Express Notary”, the other is “Notaries Express”.
Express notary does pay (usually), but not with any sort of urgency, 45-60 days from my experience.

The first Job I did for Notaries Express I had to fight with them and be a jerk in order for them to finally pay me. I have them one more chance and am waiting to see how long they take to pay for the second one before I make a decision to ever work for them again.

Totally different company

When I don’t get paid within a 6-week period (a grace period for those who don’t pay within the 30-day time frame that is in their agreement) I report them to the Better Business Bureau and Federal Trade Commission. Good grief, notaries spend a lot of money to keep up their Certificate, knowledge, membership, background checks and business records, just like the notary companies should be doing, or any other business for that matter.
