Hoping this community has advice for a TX notary getting established with loan signings in this state. I’ve gotten notices about local jobs that want the signing agent to provide the closing location. They specify that the signing must take place in an attorney’s office or a title company. They’ve offered an additional fee on top of signing fee if the location required payment for use of the office.
I figure I need to have multiple options in different areas that I could use before even responding to one of these jobs. Is there a resource in Texas that lists offices the function this way? Or am I cold-calling companies to ask if I could use some office space if needed?
Not a TX notary, but it’s my belief that Helocs require lawyer/title co. office. From what I’ve read here, if (BIG IF) you can find one, it’s going to cost $50ish (you pay & get reimbursed by hiring party). Best of my knowledge, there is no list. Use the search (upper right) for better answers. This has been discussed before. And, no, it’s not OK to sign in parking lot outside title/lawyer’s office–that was a covid workaround and I’m not even sure it was legal then…but you’ll see it mentioned.
COVID was a trying time for signings. Signed a lot of times outside and in garages (WA State land of rain). In Kitsap County WA some signings completed in enclosed Safeway parking lot. After Starbucks opened inside again, many signings completed at Starbucks. COVID is becoming active again in Pierce County WA ~ breaking out the masks.
Hi there! If you’re in the Killeen area, you can try calling Texas Lone Star Title LLC, I’ve done a couple of HELOCS there. Although the signing service set up the appointment to use one of their conference rooms, but you can give them a call yourself to reserve a room. They charge $20.
