OH GEEZ cost of shipping labels?

Did a reverse signing with a lady who had severe arthritis in her hands. I thought her signatures were holding up pretty well though. She rubbed in Volterin a couple of times.

Got a request to get the very last thing she signed - signed again because of “signature variation”. So back I go

Scanned it back and asked if it needed to be shipped. Didn’t get a reply. Then today it was an emergency to return it. I’d be charged for the label. Then I get a note saying it was $63 to ship one piece of paper via FedEx.

I said that was excessive then I got told they’d only charge me $50 for the label.

ARGH. Yeah because after all it probably cost about $22. I should have done that myself.

So I recommend you get the label yourself in these instances. I have NEVER been charged that much to ship a FedEx; document package.

Oh, some days the trenches are just brutal.

High volume shippers get big discounts.

Isn’t it totally ridiculous that they question ONE signature on an RM? It’s gotta be a weasel move to reduce payment.

Think you’re probably right because I charge a lot more for reverse mortgage. They take forever.

I’m a high volume shipper. You’re correct about the discount especially when you ship internationally.

Regarding the topic of the conversation, I would have refused to pay for the shipping and billed them a trip fee.

I agree with Joe. This was no way a notary error. Still think it was a ploy to pay less.
Joe, would you mind sharing what your shipping cost is now as a high-volume shipper?
Only reason I know about this is that a scheduler shared that info with me a very long time ago—$9.95. What is it today? I think it’s on a sliding ‘volume’ scale. Yes/no?
Having this knowledge would help a lot of notaries not get taken for a ride.

I usually pass my international discount on to my clients. The $9.95 rate is for regular 2-day delivery in a FedEx envelope.

Interesting… that’s less than USPS Priority mail! What is the volume price for o/n?

Signing agents never pay for shipping unless a reimbursement agreement exists.

With actual errors services say you do.

This contract - I file it under live and learn and next time I am contacted by that company there will be a discussion.

Joe, you are the master of supposition and it’s not appreciated. It’s very rude.

Nah… still think it was just a weasel move. AND, what IS current volume price for o/n?

I think it was a weasel move because her signature the 2nd time was worse than any in the package. She had shoveled snow her hands hurt. I have to think about what I am going to say. Not sure I let it go yet.

Then you should channel that indignation toward the hiring party and demand reimbursment. You have permission to use our conversation if you need backup.

Reverse mortgages are big money makers for the LO’s. They rely on notaries to seal the deal then unknowingly stick a slick middleman in the process who’s only interest is to milk the notaries out of their meger fee

Wow! Which signing service was this? You can ship Fed Ex for $9.95. I would have refused to pay…they are horrible.

That NOT a notary error, she can barely sign with the arthritis, I’ve been there and experienced it. I would of said this is not a notary, this is a customer mistake. They should of paid you to go back out there and for the shipping label as well…

I will probably have a conversation with them if I do another assignment for them. I even said in the order notes that her hands were bad she rubbed in arthritis cream twice during the signing. I expect I’ll write them a memo and see what happens.

I think you’ll probably need to be a bit more aggressive about this. Because of their very arbitrary decision about 1 signature out of how many, they’ve already forced you to make an extra unpaid trip to get it resigned AND made you pay for the shipping on top? No way, Jose!
