Potential New Notary with 2 Questions

Hi all,

I wanted to reach out with two questions.

I am about to sign up for my class and exam. I then plan on becoming certified through NNA. If you had to start over again is there anything different you would do with who you went through for training or post certification with boards to get as many signings as possible?

Also. I read snapdocs and signing agent are two popular platforms. What would you say are the average signings sent to you on these platforms. I know that location matters (I live in Folsom, CA) but looking to get a general sense to see the ROI from my certification investment.

Thank you so much for any advice as I start this new endeavor.

Daniel

Do a ‘find a notary’ for your location and check out the competition. Numbers and demographics are the determining factors in success.

I’m curious - what led you down this road? Also, yes, agree with Arichter - search here for notaries in your area to guage competition (which wlll tell you only those listed here), then search other notary sites for another comparison. Might also google "notary public your zip code see how many pop up.

Good luck

Hi Alice here in WA State. Agree with Arichter comment. A lot of ROI is marketing so you don’t want to sing Folsom Prison Blues. NNA teaches you the basics but you will learn a lot more by the end of your first year. You will find other ways to market yourself locally but always go to your State Notary website to keep up to date with changes. I did sign up with free version of Google Business years ago. After 5+ years with my independent business, may step up to paid version. COVID has opened new opportunities for other local signings. Good luck!

I agree with other and you also need to get snap dos verified. You just give them all your info and they will verify you. That really helps when title companies or signing services are looking at your file when say you are available for a signing and don’t forget about your bio, that is one thing they read so spend some time with that and dress it up as much as possible.
Good luck

When (if) you become NNA certified to become a NSA, they’ll do a background check, which contains your home address. Since the background check can be seen by companies that may want to hire you, you may want to block out any personal information such as your home address. I didn’t think about it, until I’d already uploaded it to Snapdocs. I saw somewhere that someone had marked out their personal info; great idea! Therefore, I contacted Snapdocs, and they said I could upload my background check with my address marked out. I’m still waiting for it to be verified.
The NNA signing agent course is all I have experience with.
