Texas now requires a test to become a notary

Texas has made changes to our Notary Laws:

Texas Senate Bill 693 (SB693) of the 89th Legislature relates to notaries public and became effective September 1, 2025: Education requirements for new and renewing notaries, creates a criminal offense for notaries who notarize without the signer’s personal appearance, and requires a longer retention period for notary records. The bill aims to combat property and title fraud.

There’s a test in Washington but it’s sort of a chuckle it’s open book. If you can’t pass it - wrong job for you.

Wonder why it took Texas so long.
