I am wary of accepting RON signing orders with Amrock due to the risk of not getting compensated. If an order gets canceled close to the session time or the revised session has a technical problem that cause it to end before 30 minutes, you might not get paid. Today, a RON order was canceled because of a KBA failure. I waited 45 minutes for Amrock support, while the signer contacted ClearSign tech support, converting the signing to a mobile one. When Amrock finally responded, I requested partial payment. After providing documentation and further discussion, they agreed to pay me. For compensation, all parties must be on a conference call with Amrock. Signing agents must document everything meticulously and contact Amrock immediately if an RON session fails to complete. It often feels like gambling, with a 50% chance of not being paid for our time.
Another reason I have resisted RON. I still don’t believe it’s going to take over.
Everything is going digital, including medical offices and such. RON will take over closings but I believe title companies will have their staff commissioned and will use them. I said it when RON started in VA - it was the beginning of the end of the signing agent as we know it.
I agree with LindaH-FL. We’ll see the Notary Public/Loan Signing Agent role change over time, but we’ll still be useful to the communities we serve in the future.
I am RON certified, but Tennessee where I live limits my billing to a total of $25 per notarization and does not allow you to bill additional stamps. It just isn’t worth it for anything over a single document notarization after you pay the platform their fees for usuage. I recieve $12 of the $25. The only benefit is that the platform I use does have on demand notarizations so they will bring the customer to you. You could use it as a filler to those times when there isn’t any work. It does require a seperate commission in my state so you do have that cost. For me it was $75.
