So I’ve got a signing coming up on Saturday morning and we’re meeting at the local golf clubhouse. I asked Mr. B how I would recognize them. He responded, “Don’t worry, I know what a notary looks like.” He chuckled at that statement.
I don’t know whether to be offended or flattered! Didn’t know we all look alike.
Going back about 25 years, I attended my first (and I believe their first) NNA Conference as a guest. Hundreds of notaries participated in the opening cocktail party, and all of them were middle-aged and overweight. My, how times have changed. Remember, this was before the invention of the Signing Agent, a less sedentary creature.
Did you ever ask him? He would already know your gender and might have seen a picture and a description of your bad ride before you even meet him. Other than that, my guess would be you are the only one carrying a messenger bag and clutching loan documents in your hands. You would be dressed casual business and have a calm, captain-like gaze in your eyes coupled with a brisk, yet dignified walk. Your cellphone might be pinging a little too much and your hair was styled by rolling down the window and letting the breeze do its thing.
We met at our local golf clubhouse. I drove into the parking lot and there were many people in the parking lot, most with their golfing gear.
As I’m driving towards a parking slot, I noticed a couple walking towards the clubhouse. He’s looking at me and waving his arm. I stop, roll down my window and ask “Robert?” He says, “Yolanda?” Yep, we recognized each other.
She went inside. He followed me asking if he could help carry anything and we walked in as he led the way, opening doors, etc. They are a lovely couple and we had a good signing.
I did ask. He said I didn’t look like I was there for the golf tournament. That was an assignment through JOT. I checked the platform. They don’t have my photo or a description of my vehicle.
My front and back car license plate says ANOTARY. My dot com is ANOTARY.com Dress code? I live and work in perfect southern California weather. So business casual is golf attire. I keep an entire wardrobe of travel pants and golf shirts. It does get chilly sometimes, so I keep in my car a light jacket.
