Thanks for sharing! I just bought some!

I’m doing a HELOC today that specifically states the DoT must be printed on legal paper. Watch for those instructions and be sure to comply.

Notaries should never email documents to a signer. It’s rarely okay. Many orders I receive specifically state to print the signer a copy and failure to do so could impact getting paid. Not every title company wants pages print “to fit”. I don’t consider that a sound practice based on what I’ve seen from signing services.

1/7/2026: LAST DAY FOR $38.99 AT STAPLES – Hammermill Copy Plus 8.5" x 11" Copy Paper, 20 lbs., 92 Brightness, 5000 Sheets/Carton (105007) | Staples

That’s why I said you should ASK permission before doing it. I’ve had orders that specifically asked for certain pages to be On legal pages , when I was Fresh out. They were fine with it being on letter sized. As long as everything fit. I’ve had few cases where they were adamant about legal paper. Same goes for the email. Clients did not want paper copies, And when I consulted the signing company or titles. They were either Send the pd f file to the client or gave me the o k.

Hi, I signed up for the Business Account at OfficeMax, and there are big savings on paper. I prefer using theirs because of the quality. No hate on Walmart, but that paper is absolute garbage in my humble opinion.

Wal Mart Penn and Gear is 92 bright and 20 pounds but it comes with the wrapper beat to heck.

@lvremotedocs Yes, there and at Sam’s or Costco. :white_check_mark:

Look up for auction houses in your region. Sometimes municipalities and companies go out of business and there are pallets of paper legal and letter size. I purchased one pallet of each about 5 years ago and I just replenished my letter size paper usually about 2 to $300 per pallet. I hired someone off of Facebook marketplace for labor to carry him from my car to my office.

That’s the ticket, Felicia. In 13 years, I have never printed the signer’s copy on all legal or even a mixture of letter/legal. I have the printing program set to auto- shrink legal pages to fit on letter. I almost always comment to the signers that I have done this so they won’t be confused as to why they signed some legal size pages but there are no legal size pages in their copy. Usually, they even comment that they appreciate the fact that I did this. In the case where the RTC is on legal size paper, I do print it on legal size for the signer’s copy. After they have signed it, I fold it and tuck it inside the stapled copy of letter pages and show them where I placed it.

A friend did that, but the paper was 16 pound and almost translucent.

@gary3 :white_check_mark: Excellent! :white_check_mark:

I use Walmart Paper & Pen brand or Target has Up and up brand both decent weight and under $10

Under $10 for what quantity?

Those are not sale prices. those are rip off prices. Cases of legal should never be more than $100. Amazon can get you some cheaper or Office Supply dot com has it for $85 and on sale now it seems. ($8.50 per ream vs $13)

Letter, even at its most expensive at places like Walmart isn’t more than $5.50 per ream and it’s pretty easy to find cases for $40 from places like Sams Club or Costco for $39.

Here is the link for Legal for $85 or whatever its on sale for now $55 at posting.

@dylan_messimer I usually purchase standard paper stock, focusing on the lowest possible cost, and I have not encountered any negative experiences with brands such as Boise, Office Depot, Costco, or Sam’s Club. Considering the increasing and frequently changing prices of paper in the current market, I prioritize purchasing in bulk, specifically by the box, to effectively maintain and enhance my profit margins. To further optimize my operational costs, I am actively transitioning my loan signing services towards a greater emphasis on hybrid or Remote Online Notary (RON) type orders. I look and make decisions on the things I can control, so I have strategic shift towards significantly reducing my variable expenses related to paper consumption, toner refills, and overall vehicle-related costs associated with traveling to signing locations. So now I have been fortunate, where my purchases for paper and toner have dropped tremendously.

Reference previous post in this thread regarding this brand of paper.

I bought that Boise paper at Costco for a nice price and found that it wrinkles and sometimes jams my excellent Brother 5200 printer. I use Staples TruRed 20lb. 92 brightness paper and never have a problem.

This is what helps me keep my costs in order but I always check Facebook Marketplace and local rummage sale sites for businesses who may be closing out businesses or purchased a surplus. I literally bought 40+ reams of Legal Paper over a year ago for $25 off of Facebook Marketplace. In Wisconsin we don’t typically use Legal size paper so I don’t go through it as often as Letter size. BUT I have also found some amazing deals on letter size paper too and it’s quality paper.

Then the next stop I search for paper is Target and Walgreens. I actually prefer the Walgreens paper brand Wexford but if it’s not on sale, I won’t purchase it because I can get a better deal at Target per ream plus Target discount and any sales.

I also occasionally purchase paper through Office Depot because they are always running promos if you spend so much you get the box of 10 reams for $XX.XX.

As far as printing, I print the size paper on whatever is sent over so if the package calls for both letter and legal, I print both.

Hope this helps!
