Why Aren't You More Local?

Just confirmed an appointment for next week, that’s a long distance location - where I go pretty often because apparently there are very few mobile notaries in that county.

So I get a text to confirm my voice message, and the signer complains about the lender not able to find someone local to them.

I ignored the comment because this lender hires me all the time to go all over the place. I just thought it was weird to have someone complain about the distance I am coming.

Honey, at least I’m coming. LOL.

That is very odd. Why would they complain when the entirety of our job is convenience to the signer. Sounds like that’s going to be a GREAT appointment.

They probably know they pay for it. I don’t go into any appointment thinking it will be one way or another. They are in a county that simply doesn’t have mobile notaries.

I’m in the same position. Rural Indiana. Most appointments are 30 min to hour away.

Oh wow. Usually if or when signers find out I cover such a large area they are grateful I came the distance. Many say they would’ve drove half way and met me.

When the documents came, I realized it was a credit union HELOC that I have done many many times in several counties. Super easy 23 pages.

What was new were the notary instructions they never included before about print a Deed on legal and not changing fonts or reducing paper size.

They only add instructions when they keep getting stuff back wrong. In my experience anyway.

But I won’t mention that to the signer.

Some companies will NOT accept a Deed of Trust that’s been printed on letter size paper. Just buy the legal paper. Don’t get creative.

Well speaking as a home owner and a business owner (not counting my LSA hobby) the whole process of an unregulated hiring service sending an unvetted stranger to my house from far away, who now without my written permission has my entire family/work/assets/financial profile on their personal computer chills me to the bone. With that said maybe this borrower thought he might be better served by someone local.

Maybe you should arrange to meet them half way when you set the appointment. Saves gas, time, wear and tear.

I’d never change a signing location unless the client requests it. They schedule their appointment for what is convenient for them. I have had offers and at that point will after checking with my hiring party, take them up on the offer. Other than that, I’d consider it rude to take an assignment and then ask the signers to come closer to my location.

100% agree. If a change request comes from them like earlier this week a man wanted me at a bank instead of his house, I just advise the service, it was changed at the signer’s request and give them that address. Being rural means, a city name can mean in a 25 mile radius of that city It can get hairy in the winter.
