Assignment and cancellations

I’m wondering if anyone else has any knowledge regarding what I’ve experienced recently. It’s happened several times where a signing company will give me an assignment send me the email then immediately send another email stating that the signing has canceled. With a couple of the them I stated that my fee was higher than what they were offering, which wasn’t a lot more than their offer. They agree to my fee then turn around and cancel the job. I can’t help but wonder if it’s a true cancellation or that they’ve found someone who will do it for their fee.

There are myriad variables to consider in this scenario, Jill. There is no mention of how long you’ve been performing these services; however, over time you’ll notice there are a few companies that seem to regularly have this happen . . .

It could be the situation you present in your original post.

OR

It could be the signing is a Re-schedule that was inadvertently assigned to a signing agent, which was subsequently ‘Cancelled’ to re-assign it to the signing agent who was originally contracted to work with that client.

OR

There are difficulties with the documents that are unable to be resolved within the time remaining prior to the scheduled appointment date/time.

OR . . . many other potential situations.

The important element, Jill, is to continue honoring your services. Do your best to set competitive fees for your services to ensure you’re covering your out-of-pocket expenses as well as paying yourself for your time.

We all see that some will ‘chase’ the fee, which becomes a downward spiral of fees across our business sector.

If you consistently provide professional services for reasonable fees (as defined above), the reliable companies will seek your services and fill your schedule.
